Teenager gets N500,000 bail over defilement of minor

A Surulere Chief Magistrate’s’ Court in Lagos on Monday granted bail in the sum of N500,000 to a teenager who allegedly defiled a 12-year-old.‎

Chief Magistrate Ipaye Nwachukwu also ordered that the accused, 19-year-old Peter Edo, should produce two sureties in like sum.

She directed that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused, while the other must be a community leader or a cleric with evidence of tax payment.

‎Edo, a resident of Ilogba Road, Ajangbadi, Lagos, was charged on one count, but he pleaded not guilty.

‎According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, Edo defiled his neighbour’s daughter shortly after she returned from school on Jan. 9 at their residence.

‎Oyasande submitted that the accused asked the minor to enter his apartment, and had sexual intercourse with her.‎

‎She said that the girl later told her parents what happened.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.‎

The case has been adjourned till March 7, pending advice of the state director of public prosecutions.

Court grants Fani-Kayode N50m bail

Fani-kayode sandwiched by EFCC officials Justice James Tsoho of the Federal High Court Abuja on Thursday granted a N50m bail to former spokesman of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode. Fani-Kayode was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a five-count charge of money laundering to the tune of N26m.
