Breaking News: Sam Allardyce resigns as England manager

Sam Allardyce Sam Allardyce has left his post as England manager by mutual agreement with the Football Association after one match and 67 days in charge. It follows a newspaper investigation claiming he offered advice on how to “get around” rules on player transfers. Allardyce, 61, is also alleged to have used his role to negotiate a deal worth £400,000 to represent a Far East firm. EFCC re-arraigns ex-governor Kalu, 2 others over N3.2B fraud

Orji Kalu The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday re-arraigned a former governor of Abia, Orji Kalu and two others on a 34-count amended charge bordering on fraud. Kalu, his company, Slok Nigeria Limited and his former Commissioner for Finance, Jones Udeogo, were re-arraigned before Justice Anwuri Chikere of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Tuesday. The defendants’ plea that the court should await the pending appeal by Slok before the Supreme Court failed. NAN reports that Chikere had refused the defendants’ objection to their arraignment and ordered that the charge be read to them. Kalu and others were, in the amended charge, accused of diverting about N3.2 billion from the Abia government’s treasury during Kalu’s tenure as governor. They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and Chikere allowed them on bail on the terms attached to the bail granted them on April 30, 2008. Reps move to reverse airport access charge

Murtala-Muhammed-International-Airport-Lagos The House of Representatives, on Tuesday urged the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to reverse its decision to increase Access Gate Charge slated to commence on Saturday. The house also mandated its Committee on Aviation to engage the management of FAAN for explanation on the purported increment in the face of current economic challenges in the country. Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, will on Oct. 4, launch the first National HIV quality improvement projects in Abuja. Police rescue 84-year-old, daughter rescued from abductors

The police in Enugu State on Tuesday said that they have rescued an octogenarian, Mrs Roseline Odoh, and her daughter, Josephine, from their abductors. The Spokesman for the state police command, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, told newsmen in Enugu that the 84-year-old woman and her daughter were kidnapped from their house at Ogbelle Ohullor in Udenu LGA of the state on Sept. 22. He said that the victims were rescued on Sept. 23 with the aid of useful information from some members of the public. Amaraizu said that the police rescued the victims unhurt in a bush located at Orokam in Benue. He said that the police worked in collaboration with the community’s vigilance group. The spokesman said that one of the suspects died from bullet wounds during confrontation with the police. Kilometre 8, Obong Itam, along Uyo-Calabar highway petrol tanker accident. At least six persons were feared dead in a petrol tanker crash which occurred at Kilometre 8, Obong Itam, along Uyo-Calabar highway around 8:30 p.m. on Monday. Corps members at a parade The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has introduced Biometric Clearance System for corps members in all local government areas of Nigeria to check impersonation and other forms of fraud in the scheme. The Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Sule Kazaure, said this on Tuesday in Katsina at the opening of a workshop on Biometric Clearance for corps members serving in the North-West zone, using ICT. DPR warns against blending of lubricants in Kwara

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Kwara, has warned against the practice of blending lubricants in the state. The DPR Comptroller in the state, Mr Philip Salvation, gave this warning on Tuesday while reading the riot act to oil marketers in Ilorin. The DPR in collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), had last week sealed three factories for engaging in illegal blending of lubricants in the state. The affected factories were Segma Oil Limited Ogbondoroko in Asa Local Government Area, Manner Business Ventures and Wobles Venture in Offa Garage area of llorin. Alhaji Nuhu Muhammad The Emir of Dutse, in Jigawa, Alhaji Nuhu Muhammad, has called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to license all motorcyclists in the state. Nuhu made the call when he received the new FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Angus Ibezim, in his palace in Dutse on Tuesday. The Emir noted that most motorcyclists were not qualified to ride, particularly commercial ones. “Very few motorcyclists are qualified to ride on the roads; so I support the arrest of unlicensed cyclists, particularly commercial motorcyclists. “Most of them don’t know how to drive, they have to be certified. Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State Imo Government says it is ready to concession sports, including Heartland FC to enable the sector to be more effective. NAFDAC shut down water factory in Niger

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Niger, has sealed a sachet water factory in Kontagora area of the state over non-compliance with approved health standards. Mr Anikoh Ibrahim, the State Coordinator of NAFDAC, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Minna in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He said that the factory, S.A. Lani Water, was discovered recently during routine check in the Local Government Area. “We discovered that the factory was compromising the health of unsuspecting consumers by packaging table water in an unhygienic environment. “We also discovered that it was producing water without ultraviolet light which makes it unhygienic because there was nothing to kill germs in the water so we sealed it,” he said. Farmers association creates cooperative for farmers

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Osun State says it has established cooperatives to cater for financial needs of farmers in the state. The state Chairman of the association, Mr Kayode Afolabi, made the disclosure in Osogbo on Tuesday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Afolabi said that the creation of the cooperative became necessary to assist farmers who could not get access to bank loans to run their operations. “Many farmers do not have access to bank loans to operate their businesses because they cannot meet the requirements of banks. “AFAN in Osun has, however, taken it upon itself to provide help to farmers under its canopy through the establishment of a cooperative that will give loans to farmers,” he said. Teenager sentenced to 10 strokes for stealing generator

The gavel of justice A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced an 18-year-old artisan, Daniel Jatau, to 10 strokes of cane and to clean the court premises for stealing a generator. The Upper Area court judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, sentenced Jatau after he pleaded guilty to a three-count of charge criminal trespass, housebreaking and stealing. Kagarko held that if the convict was put in prison at his age; he would mingle with other hardened prisoners, warned the convict to desist from committing further crimes.
