N25b Loan: Only creative unemployed youths’ll benefit – Ambode

Governor Ambode Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State said on Saturday that only creative unemployed youths would benefit from the first tranche of the N25 billion State Employment Trust Fund loan scheme. Ambode made the disclosure at a Youth Empowerment Programme organised by the `Eleniyancare Leadership Foundation’ in Epe, Lagos state featuring over 1,000 youths drawn from across the state. The empowerment programme is entitled: “Unlocking the Potentials Within: Making your Ideas Work.” The programme is convened at the instance of Mr Segun Olulade, Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Health Services. Police dislodge kidnap gang in Kogi, rescue victims

The suspected kidnappers arrested by the police in Kogi State. The Nigeria Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has smashed more notorious kidnap gang that have been terrorizing Kogi State and its environs and rescued four kidnapped victims at different locations in the state. In a special intelligence operation conducted by the operatives of the IRT of the Inspector General of Police’s, (IGP’s) Monitoring Unit at different black spots in Kogi State, three members of a notorious kidnap gang that had for a while operated in major cities in Kogi and neighbouring States were trailed and arrested at their hideouts in the outskirt of Egume and Anyimgba Towns in Kogi State. NLC, TUC call off strike in Niger

Ayuba Wabba, President of NLC The indefinite strike embarked upon by the organised labour in Niger had been called off, following the intervention of the Speaker of the State Assembly, Malam Ahmed Marafa. The Niger State Chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had started the strike on Monday to protest deductions in workers’ salaries. At the meeting, Marafa solicited for a truce between the labour and the state government in order to reduce the hardship the action had brought on the people. “We were able to reach very impressive headway and on a happy note, an agreement has been reached, after series of deliberation,” he said. Africa’s urgent need is to address inequality, poverty – Osinbajo

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President of Nigeria Nigeria and other African nations have to rise up to the urgent need of addressing the problems of poverty and inequality even as the global community focuses on its new Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs. This view was expressed on Saturday by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, at a side event hosted by the President of Ghana, Mr. John Mahama on Africa and SDGs at the African Union meeting in Kigali, Rwanda. Osinbajo who is leading the Nigerian delegation to the continent-wide meeting told the breakfast event attended by a number of presidents and several heads of delegations to the AU meeting that the whole idea of the SDGs “is really about addressing inequality and poverty.” Continuing, he observed that “the problems are so obvious that however we described the programme, we really must do something and something urgently.” He then cited the example of the N500B social investment programme of the Buhari presidency. 18 commissioners of police promoted AIGs

Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, acting Inspector General of Police The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 18 Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police. It also approved their postings with four other AIGs, 12 are to man the 12 Police Zonal Commands, while the remaining 10 will head Police special formations such as Operations, Training, Police Academy, Info-Tech, Investment, among others. This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations of the commission in Abuja on Saturday. The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State, Ibrahim Adamu, is now AIG, Zone 1, Abdulmajid Ali, CP, Ogun State, AIG, Zone 2 and Usman Tilli, AIG in charge of Border is now AIG zone 3. While AIG Dorathy Gimba retained her Command of the Investment Formation, AIG Mohammed K.
