I have court order stopping PDP convention in P/H – Modu Sheriff

The disputed Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff has commended the Justice Okon Abang ruling nullifying a Port Harcourt ruling that recognised the party’s caretaker committee. Sheriff told newsmen in Abuja on Friday that he got an order stopping the party’s national convention in Port Harcourt on Aug. 17. ‎ Commending the ruling, Sheriff said the order issued by Justice Abang was a demonstration of the existence of some fine judges in Nigeria. He also called on the Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) to remove the few erring judges who, he said, were ‎tarnishing the image of the judiciary. ‎ Sheriff said the ruling of the court had boosted his desire to wipe out impunity even as he announced his readiness to take the PDP to its original owners at the grass roots level. Sheriff also disclosed that he would convene an expanded caucus meeting of the PDP which he said would comprise the Board of Trustees, National Assembly Caucus and state chairmen to

How Ambode managed to increase the life span of Lagosians

By Seun Bisuga Traffic in Lagos In July 2015, research from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, King’s College London, and Imperial College London, found that prolonged, repeated exposure to traffic noise appears to be correlated with a decreased life expectancy and an increased risk of stroke. The new research follows much recent research that shows a correlation between the air pollution caused be vehicle emissions and a large number of serious diseases and ailments. I’m not suggesting that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos is a scientist, neither am I suggesting that he is a magician, far from it. But the soft-spoken number one citizen of Lagos seems to have found a solution to one Lagos lingering problem – Traffic. Ambode’s somewhat simple-looking intervention is no different from a scientific breakthrough if you happen to travel to Lagos Island from Mainland on a daily basis. The thought of getting on Third Mainland Bridge will kill you even faster than

Ghost Workers Quandary: Coalition and Collection of interest in Adamawa

By David Dimas Governor Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa State Payroll fraud (the placement of non-existing, underage, retired or deceased staff’s names on the payroll especially of government concerns) which many Nigerians have come to know as “Ghost workers” is a deep-rooted problem for most governments, especially in Nigeria. It will not be far from the truth to say that this ‘cancerous’ evil against the State is almost becoming the news-maker across most African countries these days. It is mostly caused by the absence of audit and accountability which allows corrupt payroll staff to manipulate government expenditures through ways they feel can never be exposed. In a brave attempt to combat this predicament in Adamawa State, the Executive Governor, Senator Muhammadu Jibrilla Bindow, post-election, constituted a Payroll Verification Committee headed by Chief Maurice Vunobolki: an accomplished accountant and financial expert. As part of its terms of reference, the committee was empow

This write up in our appraisal series attempts to delve into the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives The primary motive for setting up a business venture is profit, which is to say that no investor establishes a business as a charitable organization. But no organization is an island to itself, and none can survive by focusing primarily on the commercial purpose of its establishment without consideration to its host community. The profit motive must be balanced with the need to care for the externalities that guarantee its survival. It therefore becomes imperative to look beyond the profit objective along the line. It must take cognizance of the fact that an organization’s survival as a going concern depends largely on its activities outsid
