Police arrest suspects for killing woman preacher

Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, acting Inspector General of Police The Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) Police Command said it has arrested some suspects in connection with the killing of a woman preacher in Kubwa, FCT. The FCT command’s Spokesman, ASP Anjuguri Manzah confirmed the arrest on Saturday in Abuja. He said that the Command Commissioner of Police, Mr Alkali Usman has directed the homicide section to take over the investigation. “We have made some arrests and they are helping in our investigation. “The commissioner of police has ordered the homicide section of the command to take over the investigation of the case,” he said. The spokesman, however, did not mention the number of suspects arrested. He said that personnel of the command had visited the scene of the incident and investigation had. The woman, whose name was not disclosed, was killed while preaching in the early hours of the day around the pipeline area of Kubwa, a satellite town of the FCT.

Police pull out retired AIG Mbu

Joseph Mbu Mr Joseph Mbu, Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, was on Saturday pulled out from the force as the Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos. Mbu was enrolled into the force in 1985. Mediation centre resolves 11, 912 disputes in 6 months

The Director, CMC, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Odusanya disclosed this at the weekend during a one-day training on “Specialised Mediation Skill Set Approaches” for staff of the centre. Dr. Christopher Cooper, founder of Saint Xavier University’s Centre for Conflict Resolution, United States, facilitated the training held in Alausa, Ikeja in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. Nasarawa govt to replace striking workers with fresh graduates

Governor Tanko-Al-Makura of Nasarawa State Nassarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, on Saturday threatened to recruit fresh graduates to replace workers in the state currently on strike over non-payment of their salary. The governor issued the threat in Nassarawa Eggon at the celebration of the 35th coronation anniversary of Aren Eggon, Dr Bala Angbazo. He, however, appealed to the workers to return to work, recalling that the state was among the first in the country to implement the N18,000 minimum wage in 2011. Bank customers stranded as ATM fails to dispense cash

A customer using the ATM Customers of several banks in the Badagry area of Lagos State, were left stranded on Saturday as all the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in the town failed to dispense cash. The affected banks in Badagry include Zenith Bank, United Bank of Africa (UBA), First Bank, Union Bank and Wema Bank. Others are: Skye Bank, Diamond Bank and Ecobank. A check carried out in Badagry showed that all ATMs attached to the banks were not working, leaving customers stranded and disappointed. At the Zenith Bank and UBA, the gates were shut to customers, indicating that the machines were not working. Also, customers who wanted to withdraw money at Skye Bank, Diamond Bank and Wema Bank were also left disappointed due to similar problems. Rain causes floods in Maiduguri

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State An early morning downpour in Maiduguri on Saturday flooded many areas and residents found it very difficult to come out of their homes. Affected areas included Jajeri, Ummarari, Ngarnam, Simari, London-Ciki, Customs, Dala, Gomari Airport, as well as Gomari Costain, Damboa road, Ruwan-Zafi. Most access roads in the areas have been submerged, making it difficult for passage in and out of affected areas. A cross section of residents of Maiduguri said that the rain was heavy and they did not make any arrangement for it. Malam Bukar Wasala, a resident of Ruwan-Zafi, said that his house had been flooded. Wasala said, “the rain started gradually around 4.30 a.m as we were preparing for the early morning prayers but by 5.30 a.m., my house was already flooded, we had to evacuate our things to a friend’s place for safety.” He added that the problem of flooding had been a recurring event in the area as there was no proper drains “and residents dump

Consumers lament hike in price of cooking gas

Consumers of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) known as cooking gas have complained about the sudden increase in the price of the commodity. Some of the consumers on Saturday in Abuja said that the price of the product was outrageous, considering the current situation in the country. The price of refilling the 12.5kg cooking gas cylinder had been between N3,200 and N3,500 for a very long time but suddenly the price had gone up to between N4,000 and N4,500, while the camping gas cylinder which was N1,500 was now N2,500. Mrs Perpetua Nwaigwe, a housewife, said that the increase in price was an additional hardship to many families. She added that “I used to buy the 12.5kg of gas for N3,000 and it lasts for three weeks or even up to one month. “In the last three years, the price had been stable, cheaper and easier to get than kerosene. “But last week, I went to the gas plant to refill my cylinder and I was asked to pay N4,500; it’s really crazy.” She said it was unfortunate that prices of

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger on Saturday paraded three suspects who were caught with a human head. Mr Philip Ayuba, the Commandant of NSCDC in the state, told newsmen in Minna that the suspects were arrested in Mokwa Local Government Area of the state. He said that the suspects aged 34, 35 and 24 hail from Ekpa village in Mokwa. “I invited you here to see three suspects that we arrested on the ground of possession of a human head. “After we arrested them, they confessed to us that they own the human head,” he said. Ayuba said the suspects were arrested on Thursday while negotiating the sale of the head in Mokwa. “Our personnel pretended to be bargaining with them on how much to pay before they were arrested,” he said. The NSCDC boss said that the suspects had made confessional statements in writing, adding that they would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution. Mr Sunday Awoji, the National President of Filmmakers Welfare Organisation of Nigeria (FWON), says ailing Nollywood actor, Prince James Uche needs N11 million to undergo kidney transplant abroad. He stated this on Friday in Abuja. “Prince James Uche has been very sick and incapacitated for some years now, and it has become obvious that he cannot provide the required funds to have the necessary medical attention. “He is currently hospitalised in Lagos due to kidney-related ailment, and urgently needed to be taken to Indian for a transplant that will gulp N11 million,” Awoji explained.
