Ibrahimovic scores late to give United victory at Palace

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck two minutes from time to give Manchester United a vital victory just as it appeared they had squandered another advantage at Crystal Palace. The 35-year-old Swede slid on to Paul Pogba’s pass to beat Wayne Hennessey from an acute angle after James McArthur’s 66th-minute strike seemed to have rescued a point for a strangely passive Palace. Pogba’s assist repaid Ibrahimovic for creating his opener in first-half stoppage time – although Palace were furious as claims for a handball in the final pass and offside against the scorer were ignored by referee Craig Pawson. Pawson had a difficult night and United were angered equally when he ignored a clear handball in his own area from Palace substitute Joe Ledley after the break before Juan Mata’s shot was contentiously ruled out for offside. City defeat Watford 2-0 at Etihad Stadium

Pep Guardiola Manchester City earned their first Premier League home win in almost three months as they edged past Watford at Etihad Stadium. The Blues, looking to avoid a third top-flight defeat in a row, led when an unmarked Zabaleta calmly side-footed in Kevin de Bruyne’s deep cross. Raheem Sterling clipped the Watford bar after the break, before Odion Ighalo poked over Watford’s best chance. And the visitors were punished when David Silva tucked in a late second on his 200th league appearance after a swift City break.

Husband, wife to hang for murder in Osun

court-of-law Justice Adedotun Onibokun of Osun State High Court in Ile-Ife on Wednesday sentenced one Fatai Jimoh and his wife, Lateefat to death by hanging for murder. Delivering judgment, Onibokun said the prosecutor had proven his case beyond any reasonable doubt, saying that the convicts were guilty of the three-count charge of murder, conspiracy and armed robbery. The judge consequently sentenced the couple to death by hanging for the murder of one Bukola Taiwo at Ikeketu Village near Garage Olode in Ife South Local Government Area of Osun on August 12, 2009. The Prosecutor and State Counsel, Mr Moses Faremi, had earlier told the court that the deceased was strangulated by the couple in her rented room and her head was smashed with a sledge hammer. He said that after killing the deceased, who was a palm oil seller from Ibadan, the convicts stole her wallet containing the sum of N48, 780.
