FCTA suspends 13 officers being prosecuted by EFCC

Malam Muhammad Bello, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT The FCT Administration has approved the suspension of 13 officers undergoing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The Chief Press Secretary to the FCT Minister, Malam Hazat Sule, said this in a statement he issued on Friday in Abuja. According to the statement, the FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr Babatope Ajakaiye, made the disclosure on the officers. The permanent secretary explained that the suspension was in line with the Public Service Rule 030406. The rule states inter alia: “Where a prima facie case, the nature of which is serious, has been established against an officer and it is considered necessary in the public interest that he/she should forthwith be prohibited from carrying out his/her duties, pending the determination of the case”. 4 commissioners of police promoted to AIGs

Mike Okiro, Chairman, Police Service Commission The Police Service Commission ( PSC), on Friday approved the promotion of four Commissioners of Police ( CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police ( AIGs). The commissioners are: Henry Fadairo who was in charge of the Jigawa Command and Pius Imue who until now was Commissioner of Police, Railway Command. Others are, Felix Ogundeji, Commissioner of Police, Intelligence, Force Headquarters and Ezekiel Zang, Commissioner of Police, Air Wing, Force headquarters. The approval is contained in a statement, issued by Mr Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations of the commission, in Abuja. He said the commission’s decision had been conveyed to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Idris Ibrahim for implementation. Over 100 youths renounce cultism in Rivers

Over 100 youths on Friday renounced membership of cult groups in Eberi, Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers. Mr Iheanacho Chile, Leader of Iceland cult told newsmen after his group submitted their guns in Eberi, headquarters of the local government, that they were involved in crime because of unemployment. Chile said that they would not return to their former ways again and thanked the Rivers Government for granting them amnesty. Mr Richard Amadi, Leader of Dey Well cult, apologised to the people of Omuma on behalf of other groups that they were sorry for all the atrocities they committed against them. Nigerian Labour movement during an anti-corruption rally in Abuja The Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption, Sen. Chukwuka Utazi, said the current fight against corruption should be embraced by all Nigerians to save the nation from collapse. Utazi stated this while speaking in Abuja, on a two-day National Anti-Corruption Conference scheduled to hold on Tuesday in the Federal capital. Patrick Akpobolokemi and five others are tried for N2.3bn fraud A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday heard how a former Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Patrick Akpobolokemi, acquired a bulletproof car for his personal use. An Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) witness, Orji Chukwuma, made this known during his testimony on the matter. Akpobolokemi is standing trial on a five-count charge of allegedly defrauding NIMASA of N2.6 billion between March and June 2014. He was arraigned alongside, Ezekiel Agaba, Ekene Nwakuche, Governor Juan, Blockz and Stonz Ltd. and Al-Kenzo Logistics Ltd. before Justice Ibrahim Buba on Dec. 4, 2015, and they all pleaded not guilty. At the resumed hearing, Chukwuma tendered documents how he acquired the car and also paid for his rented apartment situated in Ondo Street, Banana Island, Lagos. Auto crash kills 3, injures 11 in Abuja – FRSC

File Photo: Bags of accident victims on the roadside The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Friday said three people had been killed in a road traffic crash along Kugbo- Karu – Nyanya road, Abuja. Mr Bisi Kazeem, FRSC’s Head of Media Relations and Strategy, disclosed that the crash occurred at Kugbo, opposite the Army check point, before Karu Bridge. Kazeem said that five vehicles and 11 people were involved in the crash. “Three people died in the crash and their bodies had been deposited at the Asokoro General Hospital, while two injured ones are also at the same hospital,’’ he said. He said other injured persons had been taken to the National Hospital, Abuja for treatment.

562 Nigerians return from Libya – NEMA

Migrants The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Friday said that no fewer than 562 Nigerians have returned in batches from Libya in the last three months. This was contained in the data made available in Lagos by Mr Ekekiel Manzo, NEMA’s Information Officer. Manzo said that 167 returned from Libya in June, 241 in August and 154 in October under the Assisted Voluntary Returnee initiative of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). He said that Dr Nahashon Thuo, the head of IOM Office in Lagos, said the returnees had opted to return voluntarily, adding that the Swedish and Swiss governments assisted in the successful process. Manzo said that the returnees were received by officials of NEMA, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Police, the Air Force and the IOM on their arrival.
