NYSC asks Niger government for permanent orientation camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has appealed to Niger State Government to develop its permanent orientation camp located in Paikoro Local government area of the state. Mrs Theresa Arokoyo, NYSC Coordinator in Niger, made the appeal when she visited Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger in Minna on Wednesday. Arokoyo said that the development of the permanent orientation camp would provide a befitting accommodation and more security to corps members. According to her, development of the permanent orientation is an urgent need, to ensure security and especially provide hostel accommodation for male corps members. “The male corps members are at present sleeping in classrooms due to inadequate hostels.” Arokoyo also appealed to the state government to complete the multi-purpose hall used by corps members to receive lectures and to reticulate water facilities within the camp for adequate water supply. IPMAN tells DPR to sanction erring depot owners

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has appealed to the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to sanction all private depots in Apapa area of Lagos selling above the regulated price of N133.28k Alhaji Debo Ahmed, Chairman, IPMAN, Western Zone, made that appeal in on Wednesday in Lagos. Ahmed said that many depot owners at Apapa sold petrol between N140 and N145, against the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) price template of N133.28kobo. Lawyer slams N10m suit on Kashamu

A lawyer, Mr Babatunde Olokun, has slammed a N10 million suit on Sen. Buruji Kashamu (PDP-Ogun). Olokun is pressing charges against Kashamu over alleged unlawful arrest, continuous threat to life, harassment and infringement on fundamental human rights. Olokun, a legal practitioner, who filed the application at the Federal High Court in Abuja, alleged that Kashamu was making murderous threats to his life through phone calls. He asked the court to declare the acts unconstitutional and a violation of his rights. The lawyer also prayed the court to stop Kashamu from using the police or any other law enforcement agent to harass, intimidate or molest him as well as or interfering with his personal liberty. When the matter was called on Wednesday, Counsel to Olokun, Mr Stanley Iji, prayed court for a short adjournment, saying that the respondents had yet to be served the processes. Artists seek to participate in Lagos @50 festival

Tope Babayemi, the Coordinator of the Artists’ Village at the National Theatre, has urged the Lagos State Government to allow professional artists participate in the Lagos @50 Festival. Babayemi on Wednesday in Lagos said that the village as a community of creative entrepreneurs, was not involved in the planning of the festival. “The Artists Village was not involved in the planning of the Lagos @50 project because we have not yet been invited, whereas, we should be involved. “It is a known fact that the Artists Village, in the last 20 years, has evolved to be so far, the only community of entrepreneurs in the West African Coast. “This community has actively contributed to the efforts of reducing youth unemployment and has added value to the society in terms of local economy,” he said. President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana has sworn into office 12 more ministers-designate approved by parliament, charging them to work toward bringing progress and prosperity for the west African country. The ceremony comes 11 days after the first batch of 13 ministers were sworn into office last month.
