She detected it early. At a point, she started feeling this object. After six months, we went to the hospital but they didn’t see anything. They kept saying that there wasn’t anything there. It took about two years before the medical practitioners knew she had cancer. Before talking about good m

Syria conflict: US air strikes kill 62 government troops mistakenly

The US-led coalition has admitted its planes carried out an attack in eastern Syria that the Russian army says killed at least 62 Syrian troops fighting IS. The US said its planes halted the attack in Deir al-Zour when informed of the Syrian presence and would not knowingly strike them. The strikes allowed IS jihadists to advance, the Russians said. Russia earlier said the current ceasefire in Syria was in danger of collapse and the US would be to blame. The cessation of hostilities does not include attacks by the US on IS or other jihadist groups. The US Central Command statement said the coalition believed it was attacking positions of so-called Islamic State and the raids were “halted immediately when coalition officials were informed by Russian officials that it was possible the personnel and vehicles targeted were part of the Syrian military”. It said the “Combined Air Operations Center had earlier informed Russian counterparts of the upcoming strike”. It added: “Syria is a

Syrian soldiers No fewer than 80 Syrian soldiers were killed in a U.S.-led coalition air strike at an army position near Deir al-Zor airport on Saturday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitoring group stated this, citing a source at the airport. Russian jets had been bombing in the same area at the same time, the group said. “The source at the airport said the air strike had paved the way for Islamic State fighters to overrun the position at Jebel Tharda,’’ the group said. It said earlier that only 30 soldiers had been killed, citing the same source.

Mad man rams car into St Peter’s Square, demanding to see pope

St. Peter’s Square A man with mental health issues broke the security barrier around St Peter’s Square in Rome, ramming his car through a checkpoint demanding to see Pope Francis. Police in Rome said in two statements that they arrested a 64-year-old “mentally unstable” Italian who drove into a one-way street to the left of St Peter’s colonnade. “He crashed past a police vehicle and broke through the wooden barricades that surround the square. “The incident in which nobody was hurt, took place at around 9.30 p.m. (1930 GMT) Friday,’’ the police said. The intruder was described as a carpenter from Ronciglione, a town about 70 kilometres north of the Vatican, who is undergoing psychiatric treatment. Officers acted “appropriately and correctly” in deciding not to use firearms, because they were informed that they were not dealing with a terrorist, and because the man posed “no immediate danger” to others, police stressed. Rome-based daily, Il Messaggero, added that the man got out

Sanchez hits brace as Arsenal beat Hull City 4-1

Alexis Sanchez Alexis Sanchez scored twice and missed a penalty as Arsenal comfortably beat 10-man Hull City in the Premier League. Sanchez put Arsenal ahead when he got a touch on Alex Iwobi’s shot, but failed from the spot after Jake Livermore handled and was sent off. Theo Walcott added a second after the break before Robert Snodgrass pulled one back for the hosts with a penalty. Sanchez stroked a third into an empty net before Granit Xhaka’s spectacular shot rounded off the scoring. Sanchez’s first goal owed much to fortune rather than brilliance as Iwobi arrived at the back post and saw his effort deflect in off the Chile international. Livermore was shown a straight red card five minutes before half-time when he blocked Iwobi’s goal-bound effort with his hands. Sanchez took responsibility for the penalty ahead of recent regular taker Santi Cazorla only to see his low effort saved by Hull goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic. It was a decision which also mystified Wenger who reveal

Superb City demolishes Bournemouth 4-0

Sterling scoring one of City’s goal A scintillating Manchester City made it eight wins out of eight in all competitions this season as they easily beat Bournemouth at Etihad Stadium. Kevin de Bruyne put the league leaders in front with a low free-kick under the wall after a Jack Wilshere foul. City were dominant and two clinical counter-attacks led to Kelechi Iheanacho and Raheem Sterling tap-ins. Ilkay Gundogan calmly slotted in a fourth but City had Nolito sent off late on for an attempted head-butt. The Spaniard was involved in a clash with Adam Smith and, while any contact with his head looked slight, referee Jon Moss had little option but to dismiss the winger. City’s passing and movement was a joy to watch and the influential De Bruyne was at the heart of their play. The Belgian midfielder, who scored in the win over against Manchester United last week, played behind main striker Iheanacho and caused Bournemouth all sorts of problems as he was involved in all his side’s g

The havoc of corruption

President Muhammadu Buhari Corruption is the opposite of integrity. Corruption is the greatest enemy to human existence and the level of corruption today in the whole world not only in Nigeria is turning everything from order to disorder, from normal to abnormal. It is indeed the havoc of corruption, a situation in which there is a lot of damage, destruction and confusion as a result of enormous corruption existing among us. There is an atom of corruption in every sector, trade and all affairs of life today. Therefore fighting corruption should not just be limited to the noticeable shortcoming in the running of our executive, legislative arms of government and judiciary only but should include sharp practices across all sectors: the civil society organizations, private individuals, private business houses, academic institutions, the media and most importantly religious organizations etc. There is need to raise a greater awareness on the evil effects of corruption in our country. Liverpool stun Chelsea at Stanford Bridge 2-1

Liverpool scoring one of their goals Liverpool continued to gather impressive momentum in the Premier League as they inflicted Antonio Conte’s first loss as Chelsea manager with a deserved victory at Stamford Bridge to move into the top four. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was a winner at Stamford Bridge last season – and this was three points Liverpool fully merited to add to a triumph at Arsenal on the opening weekend of the season and a draw at Tottenham. Liverpool were keen to build on the 4-1 thrashing of champions Leicester City at Anfield last weekend and they over-ran Chelsea to take control by half-time through Dejan Lovren’s close range finish and captain Jordan Henderson’s spectacular 25-yard strike. Chelsea, with £32m defender David Luiz making his first appearance since returning to Chelsea from Paris St-Germain as replacement for the injured John Terry, pulled one back through Diego Costa but their laboured performance deserved nothing from this game. Klopp’s Liverpool is l
