PDP logo Having won seats in the House of Assembly and House of Representatives in the last general elections, the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has boasted that it is better positioned to win if any election is conducted in the state now. The Publicity Secretary of the party, Taofik Gani who stated this during an interview, added that the catchment areas of the PDP in Lagos State were well outlined now and that the party was working hard to increase the catchment areas. Minister orders investigation into accidental bombing of IDPs in Borno

Minister of Defence, Brig.-Gen. Muhammad Dan-Ali, Defence Minister (rtd) The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, has ordered a full scale investigation into Tuesday`s accidental bombing of civilian target by the military in Rann, Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno. Dan-Ali gave the directive in Maiduguri on Wednesday while speaking at a condolence visit to the Shehu of Dikwa, Alhaji Muhammad Masta, in his residence. He said that the objective of the investigation was to prevent future recurrence of the problem. “As the Honorable Minister of Defence, I have directed the Defence Headquarters to conduct a detailed investigation with a view to making sure that such ugly situation would never happen again in future operations,” Dan-Ali said. SERAP threatens to sue FG over non-payment of judges salaries, allowances

Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN), Attorney-General and Minister of Justice. The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, (SERAP) has sent an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari requesting him to use his office to urgently instruct all appropriate authorities to release budgetary allocations for the immediate payment of outstanding salaries and allowances of judges and judicial workers across the country. In the letter dated 18 January, 2017 and signed by SERAP’s Executive Director, Adetokunbo Mumuni the organization said that, the Senate had disclosed that federal judges had not been paid their salaries and allowances for four months. The body said it was seriously concerned that failing to pay regularly and punctually the salaries and allowances of judges amounted to an implicit interference, and would seem to make judges dependent on the will of other branches of government, especially the executive, for the payment of their salaries. DSS operatives Men of the Department of State Services (DSS) and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, Ibadan, have arrested six persons alleged to have participated in the murder of the Commandant, Command Secondary School, Apata, Ibadan. The Deputy Director, Public Relations, 2 Division, Col Timothy Antigha, who disclosed this at a news conference, said that the lifeless body of the deceased killed around 10pm on December 11, last year in his official house was found in the school’s premises on December 12, 2016. Autopsy report revealed that the deceased died as a result of rise in intracranial pressure from intracranial hemorrhage caused by fracture of the skull. President Muhammadu Buhari Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, (SERAP) has sent an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari requesting him to pay immediately outstanding salaries and allowances of judges and judicial workers across the country. LG Polls: 60 PDP aspirants vie for Ikorodu LCDA

PDP-logo As at the last count, not less than 60 aspirants have signified interest in contesting for chairmanship and councillorship positions in Ikorodu Central Local Council Development Area, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, in the forthcoming local government elections.
