ASUU ends warning strike

ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Tuesday said that it has ended its one week nationwide warning strike over the non-implementation of a 2009 agreement with the Federal Government. The President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, who said this in Abuja, urged lecturers to return to work. “We are making progress, especially with the intervention of the Senate. In the next one or two meetings, if we are able to get a clear path to the matter, we will avoid elongation of the strike action. “I have been receiving these reports that ASUU says strike continues. No. The strike ends today (Tuesday). All lecturers are to go back to work Wednesday morning.” According to him, ASUU was hopeful of a positive outcome, going by the response coming from the Federal Government. -Punch

Bruce Arena replaces Klinsmann as US coach

Bruce Arena Bruce Arena has been appointed United States head coach for a second time, succeeding Jurgen Klinsmann who was sacked on Monday. The American, 65, who is leaving LA Galaxy to take up the post, led his country to the 2002 World Cup quarter-finals in his spell first in charge. Arena also boasts the best win rate of any US manager, with 71 wins from his 130 games between 1998 and 2006. He has also won five MLS Cups with LA Galaxy and DC United. According to reports, Seun was arrested, this morning, for allegedly stealing IPhones. He has since been handed over to the police, after being given some beating. An eyewitnesses said Egbeegbe went to a certain Keelcech Innovations Store in computer village, took two iPhone 7 and some iPhone 6+ and told the sales girl he was coming, and then crossed to enter a taxicab. Lagos Assembly orders D-G to vacate office

Hakeem Dickson The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday ordered the Director-General (D-G), Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr Hakeem Dickson, to vacate office until given approval by the House. The order followed an observation by the Chairman, House Committee on Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Mr Olusola Shokunle, that Dickson was occupying the position without the approval of the House. Shokunle (PDP-Oshodi/Isolo I) told the House that Dickson had not been given approved at any time by the Assembly. The lawmaker added that such a development was against normal practice and the law which established the commission. UNILAG begins registration of new students

UNILAG The University of Lagos has begun registration of new students, whose names appeared on the 2016/2017 merit admission list. The Deputy Registrar (Information) of the university, Mr Toyin Adebule, disclosed on Tuesday that the registration is holding at the institution’s multipurpose hall. Adebule said that the registration, which began on Monday Nov. 21, would end on Friday, Dec. 2., adding that candidates should strictly follow the registration procedures. Meanwhile, the Deputy Registrar said the university was set to chase out persons who do not have business with the institution’s community. Adebule said that the university had also devised measures to weed illegal students from the system. 9 police officers arrested for armed robbery, kidnapping

Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, Inspector General of Police In a major sting operation to checkmate corruption and professional misconduct within and outside the police, the authorities have arrested nine policemen for aiding and abetting serious crimes. The nine policemen were paraded today at the Force headquarters Abuja. A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Don Awunah, identified the arrested officers as: ASP Yuguda Abbah, Sgt Habila Sarki, Diphen Nimmyel, Sgt Yasan Danda, Sgt Abbas Mailalle, Sgt Bwanason Tanko, Sgt Donan James, Corporal Idris Salisu and CPL Zakari Kofi. The dismissed officers were found guilty of unprofessional conduct, aiding and abetting serious crimes like cattle rustling, robbery and kidnapping in the Northeast. Breaking: Supreme Court orders A /Court to hear Ondo PDP crisis

Jegede and Ibrahim The Supreme Court has given the Court of Appeal the nod to resume hearing of all appeals relating to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidacy tussle in Ondo state. This followed the withdrawal of 10 motions filed for stay of proceeding by the Ali-modu Sheriff faction which led to a stay of proceeding at the appellate court. The Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria who presided over the proceedings, Justice Walter Onoghene, dismissed the motion and awarded a cost of N250,000 against those who filed them. Justice Onoghene ordered the Appeal Court to resume hearing because the case is a pre-election matter. Counsel to the Sheriff-led PDP, Mr Beluolisa Nwofor, who earlier served the lower court the motions asked the Supreme Court to strike out the motion but the Supreme Court instead dismissed it.
