Fifa seeks six-year ban for Kirsten

Kirsten Nematandani A FIFA investigator has proposed, at least, a six-year ban and 10,000 Swiss francs (10,393 dollars) fine for ex-South Africa football chief Kirsten Nematandani over alleged ethics violations. Harare Riots Twenty people were injured when police clashed with protesters in Harare on Wednesday, dispersing them with batons and tear gas. The organisers said Zimbabwe had seen about 10 demonstrations this month as citizens protest alleged human rights abuses and the deterioration of the economy under 92-year old president Robert Mugabe, who has ruled Zimbabwe since 1980. Promise Mkwanazi, one of the organisers, said this protest is against the upcoming introduction of notes with equivalence of U.S. dollars to exporters to ease a cash shortage in the country. “Until we are all dead, the protests will go ahead.” Critics were of the opinion that the so-called bond notes could spark rampant printing of cash as happened between 2006 and 2008. They said that the spiraling inflation then forced Zimbabwe to swap its currency for the US dollar in 2009.

Man loses marriage for failing to appear in court

An Alimosho Customary Court in Lagos on Wednesday dissolved the five-year marriage between Mrs. Fausat Umar and her husband, Abudu Umar, over the respondent’s failure to appear in the court. The President of the court, Alhaja S. O. Apapa/Tin Can Island road Some road users in Lagos on Wednesday renewed calls on the Federal Government to repair the distressed Apapa/Tin Can Island road, to reduce gridlock and hardships on the users. Hajj: Nasarawa Pilgrims Board drops 9 pregnant women

Hajj The Nasarawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board said it stopped nine pregnant women from performing this year’s hajj to Saudi Arabia. The leader of the board’s medical team, Dr. Usman Saleh, made the disclosure on Wednesday in Lafia. “After thorough medical examination, we discovered that nine women, who, though, have fully paid their hajj fare, are pregnant. “We had to drop them from the list since they cannot perform this year’s pilgrimage as it is against Saudi Arabia’s law”. He said screening of the pregnant women was also in consonance with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria’s directives. Gbemileke Agoi, explained that the offences were committed on Aug. 5, at the University of Lagos. He said that the accused who were armed with a short gun robbed some people of their various valuables valued at N35, 700. The offences, Agoi noted, contravened Section 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011. It also contravenes Section (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Fire arms (Special Provisions Act), Cap 398, Vol. XXII, Laws of the Federation, 2003 as amended. Butchers drag man to court in Enugu

The gavel of justice The Enugu State Butchers Association on Wednesday dragged one Peter Okoye before an Enugu North Magistrates’ Court for stealing N5.4 million belonging to the association. The accused person was arraigned on a one-count charge of stealing the money kept under his custody. The prosecutor, Mr C.E. Nwobodo, told the court that the accused had in March 2014 stolen N5.4 million belonging to the association. Nwobodo said that the offence contravened the Criminal Code Law of Enugu State, 2004. The Northern Nigerian Christian Group (NNCG) has called for an end to the “dirty politics” unfolding in the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). 2016 Hajj: Kano transports 1,466 intending pilgrims

Hajj The Kano State Government says it has transported 1,466 out of its 5,808 intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the 2016 Hajj. Alhaji Nuhu Badamasi, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state Pilgrims Welfare Board, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Wednesday. He said that the intending pilgrims were airlifted to the Holy land in three flights by Max Airline. The spokesman said the third flight left the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport 10 a.m on Tuesday with preachers, medical personnel and some officials of the board. Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano State Governor Kano State governor, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje has approved the appointment of Mrs Aisha Bello as the new Accountant-General of the state with immediate effect. The Commissioner of Information, Youths and Sports, Malam Muhammad Garba, made this known in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday. Garba said before her appointment, Mrs. Bello was the Commissioner of Planning and Budget in the state.
