Ondo Decides: INEC promises prompt release of election results

INEC boss in Ondo, Olusegun Agbaje The Ondo State Electoral Commissioner, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, has promised a prompt release of the results of the just concluded governorship election in Ondo State. Speaking during a tour of polling areas in Ondo, Agbaje said the commission would take advantage of the innovation it introduced where voters were accredited and voted simultaneously. The Ondo INEC boss assured that the results would be released promptly without delay as soon as collation was completed. The governorship election was largely peaceful as people trooped out enmasse to cast their votes. Majority of voters who spoke on the conduct of the election commended INEC for a good job. In nearly all the polling booths visited, INEC officials arrived early with adequate voting materials but the card readers in some areas malfunctioned. ”With the exception of some card readers which malfunctioned, the election was well organized. You can see that people are happy to vote. There is no

11 dead in Somalia car bomb blast

Security officers at the scene of the suicide car bomb, which hit a market in southern Mogadishu. A car bomb has killed at least 11 people and injured 16 others in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu. The blast hit a market in the Waberi area, while President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was visiting a nearby university. No group claimed responsibility, but suspicion fell on the Islamist militant group al-Shabab. “There was chaos and severed dead bodies strewn around the street,” said Abdulahi Osman, a witness. Ambulance workers says the death toll could rise substantially. More than 22,000 peacekeepers are currently deployed in Somalia in the multi-national African Union force. Al-Shabab, which wants Somalia to follow a strict version of Shariah law, opposes their presence. Despite being ousted from most of its key strongholds in south and central Somalia, the Islamist group continues to launch deadly guerrilla attacks against the Somali government and foreign troops.

Ronaldo hits brace as Madrid go seven point clear

Ronaldo scores a penalty Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice but Real Madrid rode their luck to beat Sporting Gijon and go seven points clear at the top of La Liga – for a few hours. The European champions looked in control when Ronaldo scored twice in the first 18 minutes. His opener was a penalty and his second was a header from Nacho’s cross – his eighth La Liga goal in four games. Advertisement But Carlos Carmona pulled one back and Duje Cop missed a penalty for the visitors with 13 minutes left. The Croatia international, who appeared to check his pulse just before taking the kick, fired high and wide after Nacho was penalised for fouling Victor Rodriguez. Relive the drama as it happened here. Sevilla can cut unbeaten Real’s lead to six points when they host Valencia at 19:45 GMT, while champions Barcelona can take it back down to four points on Sunday at Real Sociedad (19:45 GMT). Ronaldo’s double takes him up to 10 La Liga goals for the season, two above Barcelona team-mate

Leicester came from behind to draw at home

Islam Slimani’s penalty took his tally to five goals since he joined Leicester from Sporting Lisbon. Islam Slimani’s injury-time penalty rescued a point for Leicester as they came from behind twice against Middlesbrough. Alvaro Negredo ended a goal drought which stretched back to the opening day of the season when he put Boro ahead following a neat exchange of passes with Gaston Ramirez. Riyad Mahrez equalised from the penalty spot after Calum Chambers was judged to have handled. Negredo looked to have given Boro the points when he latched on to a long ball and clinically dispatched a low shot past Foxes goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler. But Slimani converted from the spot in the fourth minute of injury time after Wes Morgan was fouled by Marten de Roon. There were murmurs of discontent from the home fans at the King Power Stadium, but Leicester’s players rolled up their sleeves and fought right to the final whistle. For large parts of the game, the Foxes lacked any kind of zip or

Swansea beat Palace in epic nine-goal thriller

Gylfi Sigurdsson (obscured) equalises with a brilliant free-kick nine minutes before half-time. Substitute Fernando Llorente scored twice in stoppage time as Swansea recorded their first win since the opening day of the season in a remarkable encounter with Crystal Palace. The Liberty Stadium witnessed an astonishing seven goals scored after the break and four in 11 second-half minutes. Swansea were 3-1 ahead before Palace produced an extraordinary fightback to take a 4-3 lead. It seemed as if the visitors would end their five-match losing run in the league, but then up popped substitute Llorente with two late goals as the ground erupted on the full-time whistle.

Liverpool beat Sunderland 2-0 to go top

Liverpool players celebrate a goal Liverpool moved back to the top of the Premier League with a win against Sunderland but could face a run of games without Philippe Coutinho who was taken off on a stretcher at Anfield. The Brazillian clutched his ankle after a challenge from Didier Ndong late in a first half where Liverpool failed to turn 80% possession into clear chances. Sunderland threatened briefly in each period, with Steven Pienaar and Duncan Watmore taking heavy touches when presented with openings. But as Jurgen Klopp’s side continued to press, it was Coutinho’s replacement, Divock Origi, who found the net with what appeared to be a right-foot cross from the left side of the area. It sparked relief at Anfield and when Ndong felled Sadio Mane in the box, James Milner converted a spot-kick to make it 14 games unbeaten in all competitions for the Reds. Chelsea will move back to the top of the table should they beat Tottenham in Saturday’s late kick-off but Liverpool have c

Aguero double sends City top

Aguero Sergio Aguero scored twice as Manchester City came back from a goal down to earn a hard-fought win at Burnley and claim back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since September. The home side might have had a penalty before surprisingly taking lead when City defender Nicolas Otamendi could only head a clearance straight to Clarets midfielder Dean Marney, who volleyed in from 25 yards. City struggled for fluency but Aguero equalised when he poked in a shot at the far post after a corner was deflected into his path. The visitors controlled the game after the break and took the lead when a Fernandinho cross hit Aguero and went in after some sloppy Burnley defending. Clarets defender Michael Keane had a late header blocked by Aleksandar Kolarov and an overhead kick from Ashley Barnes was saved by City keeper Claudio Bravo but Burnley failed to prevent a third home loss in the top flight this season. This was hardly City at their best but their battling win hig

Read below: “Efforts have been concerted by INEC and forces within APC to prevent the emergence of the eligible and electable candidate of the PDP in Ondo state.” “This ungodly process started when INEC, in flagrant disregard for extant laws governing elections removed the name of Eyitayo Jegede on the bases of the Justice Okon Abang’s order that has simply been described as a fraud by the Supreme Court and court of Appeal.” INEC in its own wisdom, had decided to obey the fraudulent ruling by Justice Abang which had substituted the name of Eyitayo Jegede with that of Jimoh Ibrahim has no excuse not to obey the laws that gave it powers to conduct free and fair elections. ”INEC ACT stipulates that a candidate ought to have at
