2 Nigerian facebook fraudsters nabbed in India

Two Nigerians have been arrested by a joint team of Delhi and Goa Police for cheating several people after befriending them on social networking sites. The suspects identified as Chukwuma Collins, 35, and Nicodemus Obinna, 27, used to befriend people on Facebook and then ask for money to send “necessary items” to their family members in UK. They were arrested on Friday, 30th September. They gave their Nigerian addresses as Ladipo Market in Lagos and Badagry Trade Fair Complex, Lagos. Police said that the two used to cook up stories about the poor conditions of their family members living in western countries and ask the victims to help them with money. After receiving the money they broke all contact with the victims. Both have been involved in several cases of fraud and an FIR was registered against them in Goa cyber crime cell.

Ajimobi justifies suspension of funding for institutions

Gov Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State Gbenro Adesina/Ibadan Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has justified the decision to stop funding of state-owned tertiary institutions. Ajimobi said the hard decision is as a result of the dwindling financial resources and the need for the managers of the institutions to be more creative. The Oyo State Government in a letter to all the state-owned tertiary institutions dated September 20, 2016 stated that the institutions should no longer expect subventions, whether for any arrears, current or future expenses in running the schools from the state government. The governor who stated that each institution will still be getting 25 percent of its subvention assured that the government would continue to support the institutions with the amount as a sign of its commitment to their well-being. Hijrah: Ajimobi declares Monday public holiday

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has declared Monday, October 3 as public holiday to mark the Islamic New Year, 1438 AH, which begins on Monday. He made the declaration on Sunday at the 1438 Hijrah Grand Rally organised by the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) at Ibadan. October 3 is the lunar month of Muharram, which is the first month of the Islamic calendar. The Islamic year calendar had started counting in 622 AD after the emigration of Prophet Muhammed from Mecca to Medina in Saudi-Arabia. Ajimobi stated that Hijrah, the beginning of the new year in the Islamic calendar was another opportunity for Muslims worldwide to reflect on their past and channel a new way of life. “Hijrah symbolises a new beginning. It is the state of improving on the past into a new status. Hijrah began when the holy Prophet Muhammed migrated from Mecca to Medina,” he said. Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, Sultan of Sokoto The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Monday, Oct.3, as the first day of Muharram, 1438 AH. The declaration is contained in a statement issued on his behalf in Sokoto on Sunday by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto. MFM Football Club There was wild jubilation at Agege Township Stadium as Lagos-based MFM escaped relegation from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after beating Ifeanyi Uba 1-0 as the competition ended on Sunday. The tension soaked match was won by MFM through a 23rd minute strike by Stanley Okoro. MFM in a sublime display in front of their home fans deserved the three points to stay afloat in the league.
