Gunmen kidnap appeal court justice, kill orderly in Kogi

Gunmen on Monday kidnapped Justice Isiyaka Usman of Kogi Customary Court of Appeal killed his orderly during the incident which occurred along the Itakpe – Kuroko road on Sunday evening while they were returning to Lokoja. The judge according to reports travelled to his village over the weekend and was returning to Lokoja when the suspected gunmen stopped his car. The suspected kidnappers shot and killed his police orderly immediately and whisked away the Judge to an unknown destination, while leaving his driver with severe injuries. It would be recalled that this incident is happening barely a year after a judge of the Kogi State High Court, Justice Samuel Obayomi was kidnapped and his police orderly killed by unknown gunmen. Justice Saheed Saqeeb, PRO Ministry of Justice has confirmed the incident. .

Lagos to build 30,000 square metres World Class convention centre

Kazeem Ugbodaga Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday said his administration has begun the process of building a 30,000 square metres top class International Convention Centre that would boost trade and investments in the state. Ambode speaking at the Lagos House, Ikeja where he received a delegation from the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), led by the President, Dr. Nike Akande, disclosed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct the centre had already been signed. He said the Convention Centre, which would be constructed in the Victoria Island area of the State, upon completion, would be of international standard and would compete favourably with the best convention and exhibition centres across the world. Indonesia to execute 30 drug traffickers

Indonesia President, Joko Widodo Bambang Waluyo, Indonesian Deputy Attorney General, has said government planned to execute 30 death-row convicts in 2017. He disclosed this on Monday in Jakarta during a parliamentary hearing. Waluyo said that this year, his office is preparing to execute 18 convicts, after July 6, the Eid el-Fitr Muslim holiday, which ends of the holy month of Ramadan. Meanwhile, the Justice Ministry said not less than 121 people are currently on death row in Indonesia, including 35 foreigners, mostly convicted of drug-related crimes. It explained that they include; Mary Jane Veloso from the Philippines, Lindsay Sandiford from Britain and Frenchman Serge Atlaoui. The ministry recalled that in 2015 Indonesia executed 14 convicts, all but two of them foreigners, in a move that drew international condemnation. Ecobank manager sent to prison over N14m fraud

Paul Iyoghojie The police at the Ikoyi Division Lagos, Western Nigeria have arrested the operational manager of Ecobank of Nigeria, Ejigbo branch, Akhanenu Ikechukwu, 41, for allegedly withdrawing N14,014.157 from the account of two customers of the bank without authority The police also accused him of sharing the money with his partner in crime, Nduka Stephen,36. The suspects were arrested following a complaint by the management of Ecobank. After investigation by Sergeant Ijatuyi Tope and his team, the suspects were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on Monday on a four-count charge of felony to wit fraud, forgery and stealing. Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Development The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has advised Nigerians to look beyond their political differences for the country to make progress. MEND names 7-member team to dialogue with FG

Niger Delta militants: seek self-determination The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) on Monday, announced a seven-member team, led by Mr Odein Ajumogobia, a former Minister of Petroleum, to dialogue with the Federal Government. Jomo Gbomo, MEND`s Spokesman, said in an online statement on Monday that other members of the group, tagged, “ Aaron Team 2”, are Bismark Rewane (Delta) and Chief Florence Ita-Giwa (Cross River). The rest are Timipa Jenkins Okponipere (Bayelsa), Ibanga Isine (Akwa Ibom), Ledum Mitee (Rivers) and Lawson Omokhodion (Edo ). Gbomo said other members of the team would be made public in due course after consultations with relevant stakeholders. He said the team was made up of patriotic and selfless men and women with good track records and character drawn from different parts of the Niger Delta region. BREAKING: Ambode swears-in LG sole administrators, warns against corruption
