RRS nabs 22 suspected kid robbers in Agege

Some of the kid robbers The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command have arrested 22 teenagers for robbery, stealing and cultism. The 22 teenagers, among whom are four female, were arrested for allegedly involved in separate incidences of robbery, stealing and cultism around Agege area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. The two leaders of the first gang, which consist of eight members, Babatunde, 15 and Tayo, 15, were arrested on last Thursday, at about 11:30 p.m. in Mulero, Agege for assaulting and robbing one Aladegbo Abidemi with an axe, and snatching her Blackberry Z10. The suspects were reported to have given out other members of the gang the following day. Other members of the gang arrested included: Matthew, 18; Sakiru, 16; Ganiyu,13; Reliwan, 15; Ibrahim, 15 and Kudus, 15. 5 kidnappers jailed 50‎ years

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State Jethro Ibileke/Asaba Five kidnappers who abducted a septuagenarian, Mrs. Queen Ogbor, have been sentenced to 50 years imprisonment by a Delta State High Court sitting at Sapele Judicial Division. The convicted kidnappers are Fidelis Ochuko, 25 (driver), Kelvin Opuoma, 21 (bricklayer), Kelly Jonathan, 20 (student), Kevwe Itedjere and Joseph Enakpodia, 20 (commercial motorcycle rider). A prosecutor from the Delta State Ministry of Justice, T.E. Omenuwoma Esq, had told the Court that the five accused persons, on or about 14 July, 2010, at Abraka, within the Isiokolo Judicial Division, conspired and kidnapped their victim. According to the prosecution, the armed gang had ambushed the 70-year old woman, a trader, as she was driving into her premises around 7 pm and took her away by foot. Dr. Jide Idris, Lagos State Health Commissioner Global health experts, scientists and others will storm Lagos next week to brainstorm on emerging deadly diseases threatening the African continent. The Lagos State Government in collaboration with Global Emerging Pathogens Treatment Consortium (GET), the West African Task Force for Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Disease Outbreaks (WATER), African Gong and the Global Partnership Programme (GPP), Canada, is organising the three-day “Second African Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases and Bio-Security,” which would hold in the State between 27 and 29 July, 2016 at the Eko Hotels and Suits, Victoria Island, Lagos. EFCC kicks against bail for Gov Fayose’s aide

efcc logo The Economic and Financial Crime Commission has said it will immediately appeal the ruling of a Federal Capital Territory High Court which today granted bail to one Abiodun Agbele, a suspect who is being investigated by the Commission for a range of alleged criminal infractions bordering on fraud and money laundering. Justice Olukayode Fadeniyi, in a ruling which the Commission described as “shocking” today offered bail to Agbele and ordered the EFCC to pay the suspect N5 million as compensation for unlawful detention. The judge claimed that the failure of the EFCC to charge Mr. Agbele to court, since his arrest, amounted to an abuse of his fundamental rights. But the Commission described Justice Fadeniyi’s conclusion as “curious” against the background of the information presented to the court, which included the fact that the suspect is being held with valid remand warrants issued by competent courts. Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife An acting new Vice Chancellor, has emerged for the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State. The VC is Professor Anthony Elujoba of the Faculty of Pharmacy. His emergence comes barely 24 hours after the Federal Government ordered the Senate of the school to use its internal mechanism in selecting a new Vice Chancellor, according to CHANNELS TELEVISION. Series of protests have been ongoing against the former Vice Chancellor, Prof Bamitale Omole, who has been accused of mismanaging resources of the institution.
