Student remanded for breach of trust

A Mararaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Nasarawa State on Monday remanded a 27-year-old student, Amos Ikani, in prison custody for alleged breach of trust and theft.

Chief Magistrate Vincent Gwehemba ordered that the accused be remanded in Keffi prison after he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He adjourned the case till Jan. 26 for hearing.

The Prosecutor, Stephen Kwaza, told the court that Omokehinde Muyiwa of Old Karu Road, Mararaba, had lodged a complaint against the accused.

Kwaza said the accused sometimes in 2016 came to the complainant’s shop in Mararaba and collected some musical instruments in the pretence of hiring them.

He said the accused collected 32 channel Beringer mixer valued at N300,000, an amplifier valued at N210,000 and Yahama keyboard valued at N120,000.

The prosecutor added that the accused, however, absconded to an unknown destination until on Jan. 7 when he was sighted at Army Barrack, Kurudu, Abuja, and was arrested.

He said during police investigation, the accused confessed to the crime and also stated that he deceived one Samuel Moses and Anthony Julius under the same guise.

“The accused confessed to have deceived them in the pretence of hiring instruments and sold it to one Emmanuel Nwankwo of Life Camp Abuja,’’ he said.

Kwaza said the offence contravened Sections 312 and 287 of the Penal Code.

Pope not involved in Colombian peace deal- Vatican

Pope Francis Pope Francis has turned down a request to play a role in the peace deal between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebel group.
