Southwest APC leaders meet to strategise

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the South West led by the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu were in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Thursday for a strategic meeting to reposition the region for it to occupy its rightful position in the country.

Apart from the host governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state, others governors present include Akinwumi Ambode, Lagos; Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Osun and Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, Ogun.

APC leaders present at the meeting held in the Agodi Governor’s office were the former Governor of Ekiti State and Minister for Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, Minister of Works, Housing and Power, Babatunde Fashola, SAN; Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole; Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed and his Finance counterpart, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun; former governor of Osun state, Chief Bisi Akande, former Governor of Ogun state, Chief Olusegun Osoba, former Governor of Osun state, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Senate Chief Whip, Senator Olusola Adeyeye, and Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

They told newsmen after the meeting that they had resolved to re-assert their influence in the progressive politics of the country, stressing that there is no division among party members in the region.

They also said that they resolved all issues concerning the governance of the country and what should be the role and influence of the group in the interest of the country for the progress of the people.

Addressing the media at the end of the meeting, Aremo Osoba said the group examined the government it helped in bringing about and have also reviewed all issues concerning the governance of the country, adding that the party leader would forward all issues discussed to the appropriate quarters.

He said the leaders also related with the party’s representatives at the National Assembly, the governors, party leaders on all issues and assured that henceforth, there would be total unity and due consultation among the governors for the development of the region, and the country at large.

According to him, “For God’s sake, we are the leaders of the progressives in this country and we are determined to re-assert our interest in the progressive politics of this country and for the betterment of Nigeria. We have come out with a resolution to show that in the South West of APC, we are one. We are together on all issues concerning the governance of this country and what should be the role and the influence that should be exercised as a group or the interest of this country and the progress of this country. We have examined what the government we were all involved in bringing about, is doing and we have reviewed all issues concerning the governance of the country.

”We have related with our representatives at the National Assembly, our governors, our other party leaders on all issues and we discussed them exhaustively. I can assure you that from now onwards, there will be total unity and due consultation among the governors for the development of the region and the country at large”.

Fire: UniJos Senate convenes emergency meeting on Monday

Fire at the University of Jos Library University of Jos is to convene an emergency senate meeting on Monday to review the level of damage done to the institution by the Saturday night inferno. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, disclosed this on Sunday after inspecting areas affected by the incident. The fire, which lasted for more than six hours, destroyed the Library Complex that equally houses the faculties of management and social sciences. NDLEA arrests 252 suspects, seizes 3,073 kg Indian hemp

NDLEA operatives The NDLEA in Niger on Monday said that it had arrested 252 suspects and seized 3,073.9 kilogramme of Indian hemp(cannabis sativa) in the state. The NDLEA Commander in the state, Mr Joseph Iweajunwa, who disclosed this in Minna, said that the operations were carried out between January and September. “Our operations in Niger State from January to September 2016 led to the arrest of 252 suspects and seizure of 3,073.997 kilogramme of cannabis sativa,’’ he said. Iweajunwa said that within the period, the agency also seized 1, 530 litres of liquid drugs, especially cough syrup with codeine. He said the NDLEA also counselled and rehabilitated 90 drug addicts in the state within the period under review.
