The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says it will announce the appointment of a Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles in August.

Chris Green, Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee revealed this in an interview.

The NFF Executive Committee had given the committee seven days within which to name a Technical Adviser for the senior national team following the federation’s failure to obtain Frenchman Paul Le Guen’s signature as coach of the team.

“We are working to ensure that we finish with the other incidentals, because as at the last time we didn’t do that.

“We left it for the executive to do, which ordinarily should be their responsibility.

“But when they now asked us to go and do it again, they now told us to complete everything with the incidentals and send recommendations.

“It’s based on that that we are doing this now; we don’t want a situation where somebody will come out again and say this and that.

“As I speak with you, we have made contacts, we have done interviews, we have asked questions and the rest of them – even verifying from every other person.

“We have considered at a lot of people, but we have zeroed in on one person.

“It may not be from the former list; it’s a different exercise entirely, because as I speak to you, even when we have closed entries, some people are still applying,’’ he said.

Green told NAN that though the deadline given to the committee by the NFF Board to name Le Guen’s replacement elapsed on July 27, efforts were on to ensure it does not exceed August.

“We have spread our dragnet by considering the once that applied now and it will be announced to Nigerians by next month; So, I think we are on course,’’ he said.

NFF subsequently named Salisu Yusuf as the new Super Eagles Head Coach.

The NFF Executive Committee had claimed it rejected the recommendation of its technical committee for Le Guen to be appointed the Super Eagles Technical Adviser, hence the appointment of Yusuf.

Coach of Rangers Int’l FC Enugu, Imama Amakapabo, was picked as Yusuf’s Assistant, while Alloy Agu was retained as the team’s Goalkeepers’ Trainer.

FG berates US congressman over comment

Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture Photo: Femi Ipaye/PM News The Federal Government has described as sadly out of tune with reality the published letter from US Congressman Tom Marino to Secretary of State John Kerry, asking the US to withhold security assistance to Nigeria on the strength of some imaginary infraction by the Buhari Administration. In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Congressman Marino was poorly informed about the issues he commented on, wondering why he did not take the pains to get first hand information from the US Embassy in Nigeria or any other credible source before engaging in what is nothing but a ‘propaganda of his own imagination’. The Minister said by asking the US to refrain from selling warplanes and other military equipment to Nigeria based on a faulty premise, the Congressman has demonstrated a poor understanding of global security issues. ”Insecurity anywhere i

Gabon have also named Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong despite the player being left out of November’s World Cup qualifier in Mali. But a remorseful Ndong, who held clear-the-air talks with Fegafoot has been included in a 23-man Panthers squad. Other names to make the final party include Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina, Bruno Ecuélé Manga of Cardiff City and China-based striker Malick Evouna.
