Parks and recreation owners in Abuja have geared up preparation ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebration to make brisk business.

Some of the parks visited by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) have received decorations and make-up in anticipation of an influx of fun seekers during the yuletide.

With Monday and Tuesday declared by the Federal Government as public holiday in commemoration of the Christmas celebration, such spots are expected to be full to capacity with fun seekers.

NAN correspondent who spoke with some managers of relaxation centres expressed optimism that business would be rewarding this season irrespective of the economic downturn.

Mr Paul Oko, the manager of Magicland Amusement Park, said they are fully prepared for the festivities with many special programmes at no added cost.

He said that the park was usually full with clients during the weekends so there would be no cause for alarm during the yuletide season.

“We are fully prepared for the festivities, the park is always full with fun-seekers during the weekend, and the Christmas celebration will not be a problem.

“Our decorations will be up soon to add to the beauty of the environment, with banners and other decorations of Merry Christmas and Happy New Year flash lights around the park,’’ Oko said.

NAN also discovered that subtle work is ongoing at the Millennium Park in anticipation of the influx of people during the holiday periods.

Yunusa Mustapha, a fun seeker who was at the park with his family, said he likes coming to Millennium Park because of its proximity to his house and the serene environment.

Mustapha said that the management should fortify the security in the park to ease fear of breach by patrons.

Mr Azubuike Otuonye, operator of Kings and Queens Recreation centre in Garki said he has stocked up assorted drinks and variety of delicacies in readiness for the celebration.

Otuonye said that he would increase the number of security personnel in order to allay the fears of potential customers.

“I will make provision for play space for customers that will come to have fun with their children,’’ he said.

FG berates US congressman over comment

Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture Photo: Femi Ipaye/PM News The Federal Government has described as sadly out of tune with reality the published letter from US Congressman Tom Marino to Secretary of State John Kerry, asking the US to withhold security assistance to Nigeria on the strength of some imaginary infraction by the Buhari Administration. In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Congressman Marino was poorly informed about the issues he commented on, wondering why he did not take the pains to get first hand information from the US Embassy in Nigeria or any other credible source before engaging in what is nothing but a ‘propaganda of his own imagination’. The Minister said by asking the US to refrain from selling warplanes and other military equipment to Nigeria based on a faulty premise, the Congressman has demonstrated a poor understanding of global security issues. ”Insecurity anywhere i

Gabon have also named Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong despite the player being left out of November’s World Cup qualifier in Mali. But a remorseful Ndong, who held clear-the-air talks with Fegafoot has been included in a 23-man Panthers squad. Other names to make the final party include Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina, Bruno Ecuélé Manga of Cardiff City and China-based striker Malick Evouna.
