Amosun to commission, allocate workers’ estate

Gov. Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun will on Monday inaugurate the state government’s housing estate built for public servants.

A statement obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday stated that the estate, A.A.K Mitros Estate, would also be allocated to its beneficiaries after the inauguration.

It also stated that the governor would also inaugurate the Laderin Neighborhood Market located within the new estate.

Built on a 4.2-hectare parcel of land, the 160-unit estate comprises 2-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, 3- bedroom semi-detached bungalows and 2-bedroom flats.

According to the statement, the estate boasts of quality infrastructure, good road network with drainage system, ample parking space for residents and their guests.

It also has uninterrupted water supply with water treatment and storage of more than 200,000 liters capacity, just as it has two-500kv transformers supplying power to all houses and streetlights.

“Each unit has been made ready to receive meters, which have been paid for.

“The estate has been designed to ensure communal cohesion. To this end, there are a number of pocket parks and a large residents’ pavilion to foster social interaction.

“In order to ensure ease access to basic needs, a retail shop is being built around the community center.

“Also, good quality landscaping completes the development, thus creating a nice ambience for residents and visitors,” the statement stated.

It added that the newly built shops at Laderin Neighbourhood Market had 116 shops; 48 lock-up shops and 68 open stalls.

“The market is built specifically to cater for the needs of residents of Laderin Estate, AAK Degun Estate and its environ.

“The new market was conceived by Gov. Amosun in line with regards to urban renewal,” the statement said.

Pope not involved in Colombian peace deal- Vatican

Pope Francis Pope Francis has turned down a request to play a role in the peace deal between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebel group. The Vatican in a statement issued on Wednesday in in Vatican City said that an invitation was sent to his Holiness in early August to appoint a representative to participate in the committee that selected the judges for the talks. Man docked for defiling 9-year-old girl

magistrate-court A 33-year-old man, Godwin Otobo, was on Monday docked at a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.For allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl, ‎Otobo, who lives at No. 10, Borrow Pit St., Sangotedo-Ajah area of Lagos, was said to have defiled the underage girl whose parents also reside in the same compound. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offence at about 9.00 p.m. sometimes in September. “The accused defiled the girl in the night when she was fetching water.‎ “The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011,’’ Osayande told the court. The accused pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of defilement.
