World bankers conference : opportunity for foreign investment – CIBN

Mr Segun Ajibola, President, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), has called for utilisation of the forthcoming World Conference of Banking Institutes (WCBI) to attract foreign investments. The CIBN president made the call in Lagos on Monday.

Ajibola said that WCBI slated to hold in April, 2017 in Lagos, would be an avenue to showcase the investment potential of Nigeria, particularly, Lagos State.

Ajibola said: “The conference holds a great potential in that it will attract more direct foreign investments to the state.

“Since it is a biennial global forum, it will bring professionals from the banking and finance industry, training providers and relevant stakeholders.

“It will also be an opportunity to showcase the hospitality potential and rich cultural heritage of the state.

“This automatically will further improve the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state as a tourism destination of choice.’’

Ajibola commended the state Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, for efforts in developing the state.

He enumerated the governor’s achievements to include safety of human beings and property and security in banks, improved road transport system and light rail project.

“Others are the Light Up Lagos Project, efficient traffic management, construction of Berger Overhead Bridge and Ojota Pedestrian Bridge.

“As a body, statutorily empowered to further capacity building, we are already equipped to cooperate with relevant ministries, departments and agencies, and local governments,’’ he said.

According to him, the capacity building is in the areas of finance, treasury, risk management and e-banking to promote best practices.

The CIBN boss added that the institute would introduce a radio and TV programme tagged `You and Your Banker’ to educate the masses on the rudiments of banking.

Fire: UniJos Senate convenes emergency meeting on Monday

Fire at the University of Jos Library University of Jos is to convene an emergency senate meeting on Monday to review the level of damage done to the institution by the Saturday night inferno. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, disclosed this on Sunday after inspecting areas affected by the incident. The fire, which lasted for more than six hours, destroyed the Library Complex that equally houses the faculties of management and social sciences.
