Police, critical stakeholder to change campaign – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, says the Police are critical stakeholders to the national reorientation campaign “Change Begins With Me” by virtue of their duties.

The minister stated this on Tuesday in Abuja when he presented the campaign to the police hierarchy attending the Inspector General of Police (IG) Conference at the Force Headquarters.

He recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari launched the campaign on Sept. 8, noting that “it is a Pan Nigeria Campaign that has no coloration whatsoever – whether it is political, religious or ethnic’’.

“It is a campaign for all Nigerians, with the sole objective of achieving a paradigm shift in the way we do things.

“The campaign is based on one principle: Each one of us must be the change we want to see in our society,” he said.

The minister said that contrary to the misconception in certain quarters, the campaign was designed to start from the very top, right from the President, the Vice President, Ministers and other top government officials.

He added that from the top, the campaign would then cascade down to all Nigerians.

“Therefore, those who have said the campaign is aimed at saddling only the ordinary citizens with any burden have been unduly hasty.

“They should have at least waited for us to roll out the campaign before commenting on it,” he said.

He thanked IG Ibrahim Idris for the invitation extended to him to formally present the campaign to the police hierarchy.

The IG hailed the initiative of the campaign and assured that it would be implemented in the force.

“Change begins with us the management of the Police and it will cascade to the officers and the rank and file,’’ he said.

Idris directed all heads of police commands to get soft copy of multimedia presentation of the campaign and ensure it gets to officers and men in their formations.

He also accepted the request by the minister that police vehicles be branded with the campaign slogan.

Fall of Assad is a Blow to Russia's Prestige

The potential fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a long-standing ally of Russia, would mark a turning point in Moscow’s global influence, particularly in the Middle East. Steve Rosenberg’s analysis underscores the profound implications for Russia, which has invested heavily—both militarily and politically—in ensuring Assad’s survival over the past decade. This article delves into why Assad’s downfall would strike at the core of Russian prestige and what it could mean for the broader geopolitical landscape. Russia's Strategic Commitment to Syria Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Russia has been a staunch supporter of Assad's regime. In 2015, Moscow launched a military intervention that proved decisive in stabilizing Assad’s hold on power. This intervention solidified Russia's role as a key power broker in the Middle East and demonstrated its willingness to project military power far beyond its borders. Syria is not just an ally for Russia; it is a...
