Police arrest robbers in Nsukka, recover guns

The Enugu Police Command on Thursday that it had arrested two armed robbery suspects in Nsukka who specialised in dispossessing people of their money and valuables as well as bugling houses.

Mr Ebere Amaraizu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said in Enugu that the police recovered two single-barrel locally-made guns, a rubber pistol, five live cartridges and an expended cartridge from the robbers.

Other items recovered by the police included three cell-phones, one Cy 90 lady motorcycle, two generators, one television, one standing fan and cooking utensils.

According to Amaraizu, the suspects were arrested on Wednesday at about 8.00 a.m. following a distress call received by operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) Nsukka Zone.

“The suspects are Chinedu Omeje, 25, and Onyebuchi Ezema, 22, an ex-convict that recently regained freedom after serving a jail term over his nefarious activities ranging from stealing and robbery.

“The duo was nabbed by the operatives following a distress call.

“Following their arrest and revelations made by them, some of the burgled and stolen items were recovered, some from them and a receiver of the stolen items identified as one Ifeoma Ugwu, a 36-year-old widow.
“They are already helping the police in the investigation,’’ he said.

Amaraizu said that the suspects in their separate defence blamed the situation to acts of the devil and pleaded for forgiveness.
He said the receiver, however, said she did not know the motorcycle she bought was stolen.

Pope not involved in Colombian peace deal- Vatican

Pope Francis Pope Francis has turned down a request to play a role in the peace deal between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebel group. The Vatican in a statement issued on Wednesday in in Vatican City said that an invitation was sent to his Holiness in early August to appoint a representative to participate in the committee that selected the judges for the talks. The statement said that though Pope Francis supported the peace process, he, however, reiterated that he would not get involved in Colombian peace deal. Man docked for defiling 9-year-old girl

magistrate-court A 33-year-old man, Godwin Otobo, was on Monday docked at a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.For allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl, ‎Otobo, who lives at No. 10, Borrow Pit St., Sangotedo-Ajah area of Lagos, was said to have defiled the underage girl whose parents also reside in the same compound. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offence at about 9.00 p.m. sometimes in September. “The accused defiled the girl in the night when she was fetching water.‎ “The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011,’’ Osayande told the court.
