Tragedy struck on Wednesday night as two officers of the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit died in a ghastly motor accident in Alausa in abnormal over-speeding.

Taskforce source said officers over-sped in a short distance of about 500 metres between their office in Alausa and the State House of Assembly.

One of the officers was said to have died immediately while the second died in hospital on Thursday as the incident has thrown the taskforce headquarters in a mourning mood.

PM News gathered that the officers might have gotten drunk as the distance between the taskforce office and the State House of Assembly were the accident occurred was just about 500 metres.

The police officer who drove the vehicle was said to be on top speed when the accident occurred.

A taskforce source who craved anonymity wondered how such an accident could have occurred at such a short distance, meaning that the police officer who drove the vehicle was driving in abnormal speed.

Our source stated that the driver of the vehicle was a police officer who was not supposed to drive as there were drivers designated to drive the taskforce officers whenever they were going on operation.

Taskforce Chairman, Yinka Egbeyemi, when contacted refused to comment on the matter, saying that he was not permitted to talk on the matter, asking our reporter to talk to the Police Public Relations Officers, PPRO, Dolapo Badmos on the matter.

When contacted, Badmos said he was not aware of the matter.

Fall of Assad is a Blow to Russia's Prestige

The potential fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a long-standing ally of Russia, would mark a turning point in Moscow’s global influence, particularly in the Middle East. Steve Rosenberg’s analysis underscores the profound implications for Russia, which has invested heavily—both militarily and politically—in ensuring Assad’s survival over the past decade. This article delves into why Assad’s downfall would strike at the core of Russian prestige and what it could mean for the broader geopolitical landscape. Russia's Strategic Commitment to Syria Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Russia has been a staunch supporter of Assad's regime. In 2015, Moscow launched a military intervention that proved decisive in stabilizing Assad’s hold on power. This intervention solidified Russia's role as a key power broker in the Middle East and demonstrated its willingness to project military power far beyond its borders. Syria is not just an ally for Russia; it is a...
