Lagos To Begin Yuletide With Street Party

As part of measures to boost its tourism potentials, Lagos State Government on Thursday said it will commence this year’s yuletide season with street party for one million residents in the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde who disclosed this while briefing journalists in Lagos said the government is collaborating with White Star an entertainment firm to organize the event.

According to Ayorinde, the street party is one of the initiatives of the present government in the state to use entertainment to drive the state economy.

He said the street party will hold early December, 2016, in Victoria Island area of the state, adding that it will be organized annually to provide opportunities for young people to show case their various skills.

“This will be a carnival like event as it promises to be entertaining and fun.” the commissioner said adding that  about 500,000 visitors and tourists are expected at the street party.

He said the entire stretch of Ahmadu Bello way will be shut down from mid day in December during the street  party adding  that alternative route will be created in order to help manage the traffic situation in the axis.

“He said adequate security plans are in place as well as well equip medical facilities during the street party. Businesses around these areas will also be sensitized as the street will be busy throughout these two days.

He added that the street party which will witness local and foreign visitors is not a replacement of one Lagos fiesta but rather will complement it.

Also speaking representative of White Star, the entertainment outfit who partnered with the state on the project, Akin Akinyelure said the street party will feature live music, diverse cuisine and creative indigenous games in a beautiful environment.

Akinyelure said , “The first day of the party will feature colourful cultural parades, displays, acrobatic acts and live performances by several Nigerian musicians including Olamide, Phyno, MI and The Police band.”
