The Lagos State Government says it is putting machinery in motion to tackle and resolve challenges encountered in Local Government administration in the state through effective networking.

In a bid to achieve the target, 100 management staff of the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs had a two-day retreat to strategise on how to tackle the challenges.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the retreat held in Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Thursday, Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Muslim Folami said the retreat had become imperative to sensitise and educate the workforce on the plans, programmes and policies of the state government.

According to him, capacity building for all staff could not be over-emphasised as it would enable participants to have insight into emerging local government administration concept and application.

The commissioner, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communication, Kehinde Bamigbetan said the theme of the retreat is “Resolving Challenges in Local Government Administration through effective Networking.”

“The main objective of the retreat is to expose all participants to basic things that could make you to live a work life balance, lifestyle and how to cope with pressure at work. It will expose the participants to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2016-2030.

“It is also to align you with the Lagos State Development Plans and also enable you to identify symptoms of poor teamwork and steps involved in ensuring team effectiveness,” Folami stated.

Also speaking, Bamigbetan, whose speech was read by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Affairs, Tajudeen Quadri explained that the retreat was meant to broaden workers’ knowledge on the strategic planning process and work plan development and how to manage all activities going on at the local government and local council development areas of the state.

Permanent Secretary, Local Government and Community Affairs, Babatunde Sanuth disclosed that 100 management staff had been selected for the training and that it was ongoing as more would be trained later in line with the vision of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration to empower workers for effective performance.
