IDPs hail FG for distribution of relief materials

Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Gombe State, have commended the Federal Government for the ongoing distribution of relief materials to IDPs camps in the state.

The materials consisted of food and non-food items.

The state chairman of IDPs, Malam Abba Jatau-Damboa made the commendation on Tuesday in Gombe.

The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Alhassan on behalf of the Federal Government presented the items for distribution to the IDPs last week.

The items consisted of 1, 200 bags of 50 kg rice, 600 bags of maize, 600 bags of millet, 600 bags of guinea corn, 600 bags of beans, 400 jerry cans of vegetable and palm oil, 500 cartons of indomie noodles among others.

Jatau-Damboa, who commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the gesture, noted that the items came at the right time when the IDPs were in need of them.

One of the beneficiaries, Ali Hassan, told NAN that 21 households were given 20 litres of vegetable oil and some palm oil.

He added that eight households were given bags of millet, guinea corn, maize and two bags of rice to share.

Another beneficiary Malam Umar Gana commended the federal government for coming to the aid of the IDPs.

He appealed to the government to intensify efforts to convey the IDPs back to their respective communities to enable them go back to farming to produce food.

Fire: UniJos Senate convenes emergency meeting on Monday

Fire at the University of Jos Library University of Jos is to convene an emergency senate meeting on Monday to review the level of damage done to the institution by the Saturday night inferno. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, disclosed this on Sunday after inspecting areas affected by the incident. NDLEA arrests 252 suspects, seizes 3,073 kg Indian hemp

NDLEA operatives The NDLEA in Niger on Monday said that it had arrested 252 suspects and seized 3,073.9 kilogramme of Indian hemp(cannabis sativa) in the state. The NDLEA Commander in the state, Mr Joseph Iweajunwa, who disclosed this in Minna, said that the operations were carried out between January and September. “Our operations in Niger State from January to September 2016 led to the arrest of 252 suspects and seizure of 3,073.997 kilogramme of cannabis sativa,’’ he said. Iweajunwa said that within the period, the agency also seized 1, 530 litres of liquid drugs, especially cough syrup with codeine. He said the NDLEA also counselled and rehabilitated 90 drug addicts in the state within the period under review.
