President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said that his leadership was committed to leading the people into enduring heritage of worthy values and all-pervading welfare.

The President said this at the 31st Annual National Conference of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) in Lagos.

Buhari, who was represented by Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun, urged Nigerians to complement and support government’s efforts to take the country out of the present economic challenges.

“We wish to admit that the period of economic hardship that has coincided with our assumption of office till date, is a most demanding one.

“It, therefore, implies that the impact would be more on women, as managers of resources for families.

“I urge you not to despair, but pray and trust in almighty Allah, the only one that can guarantee the safe berthing of ships, irrespective of any turbulence,” he said.

Buhari reiterated his administration’s commitment to women’s welfare as demonstrated in the rescue, rehabilitation and re-integration of the 21 released Chibok girls.

He added that government would not relent in securing the release of the remaining girls.

Also speaking, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, represented by his Deputy, Idiat Adebule, urged Nigerians to live by the dictates of God to enjoy peace, security and development in the country.

“Security and peace are from the Almighty Allah and those are His wish for mankind.

“I urge residents to sustain the peaceful coexistence enjoyed in the state,” Ambode said.

Earlier, Dr. Abdul-Lateef Abdul-Hakeem, Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, said peace and security could be attained when Nigerians change their negative attitudes and collectively support the government to transform the nation.

“We must also have respect for the rules and Nigerians must unite for prosperity. If we adhere to all these, development will set in,” he said.
In her remarks, Amina Omoti, National President of FOMWAN, said that peace and security were important components for development in any society.

“Where peace and security are threatened, there will be no development in terms of the infrastructure, social, economic and educational sectors of the nation.

“We urge the government to formulate and implement policies to meet the immediate needs of Nigerians as a way of ensuring peace and security,” she said.

Omoti lauded President Buhari’s anti-corruption stance and urged the administration to pursue to a logical conclusion all cases against corrupt officials that contributed to the current hardship faced by Nigerians.

She also commended the Federal Government’s efforts on the release of 21 of the abducted Chibok girls and called for sustained negotiation for the release of the remaining girls.

While the exact impact of these attacks remains unclear, reports suggest that Israel’s defense systems intercepted several threats over its airspace. This marks a significant escalation as the Houthis widen their involvement in the conflict beyond their typical operations within Yemen and neighboring Saudi Arabia. The Houthis’ Justification In their statement, the Houthis framed the attack as retaliation for Israel’s military actions in Gaza, which they characterized as indiscriminate bombings resultin...

Fall of Assad is a Blow to Russia's Prestige

The potential fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a long-standing ally of Russia, would mark a turning point in Moscow’s global influence, particularly in the Middle East. Steve Rosenberg’s analysis underscores the profound implications for Russia, which has invested heavily—both militarily and politically—in ensuring Assad’s survival over the past decade. This article delves into why Assad’s downfall would strike at the core of Russian prestige and what it could mean for the broader geopolitical landscape. Russia's Strategic Commitment to Syria Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Russia has been a staunch supporter of Assad's regime. In 2015, Moscow launched a military intervention that proved decisive in stabilizing Assad’s hold on power. This intervention solidified Russia's role as a key power broker in the Middle East and demonstrated its willingness to project military power far beyond its borders. Syria is not just an ally for Russia; it is a...
