The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has suspended its National Vice Chairman (South-East), Mr Ozo Okafor, over alleged anti-party activities.

In a communiqué released in Awka on Thursday, after an emergency meeting of its South-East Working Committee, the party said that Okafor’s activities were considered and found to be against its interest.

It said that the anti-party activities contravened Articles 21(1) (g) (k) (i) (n) and 22(1) (C) (d) (e) (h) and (h) of APGA’s Constitution as amended.

“Sequel to the self-induced crisis currently instigated by some members of NWC of APGA and spearheaded by National Vice Chairman South-East, Ozo Okafor, we resolve as follows:

“That Ozo Okafor is suspended as a result of glaring anti-party activities, which he has been engaged in and in total breach of Articles 21(1)(g)(k)(i) (n) and 22(1)(C)(d)(e)(h) and (h) of APGA Constitution as amended.

“That we the South-East Working Committee appoint Chief Smart Iheoma as the Acting National Vice Chairman, in addition to his position as Assistant National Publicity Secretary, pending outcome of report of our disciplinary committee,” the communiqué stated.

The party expressed confidence in Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra as the leader of the party and Dr Victor Oye as its National Chairman for their commitment to the advancement of the party.

The communiqué was signed by eight members out of the nine members of the NWC in the zone.

The signatories are Mrs Ocheze Ubani, Woman Leader; Mr Eugene Obi, Financial Secretary; Mr John Iwuala, Organising Secretary and Mr Henry Uzom, Youth Leader.

Others are Mr Alex Ani, Treasurer; Ms Francisca Ogadi, Ex-Officio; Mr Jones Salem, Ex-Officio and Chief Smart Iheoma.

Reacting to his suspension, Okafor told the NAN that the decision was void and not binding on him, saying that he was not aware of the meeting.

He said the Zonal Working Committee lacked the power to suspend him and that he remained a member of the National Working Committee of the party.

“I am not disturbed because they do not have power to sack me.

“I belong to the National Working Committee of APGA; so, it has no bearing on me,’’ he said.

Details of the Attack The Houthis, a Shiite militant group with ties to Iran, declared that they launched missile and drone strikes targeting Israel. While the exact impact of these attacks remains unclear, reports suggest that Israel’s defense systems intercepted several threats over its airspace. This marks a significant escalation as the Houthis widen their involvement in the conflict beyond their typical operations within Yemen and neighboring Saudi Arabia. The Houthis’ Justification In their statement, the Houthis framed the attack as retaliation for Israel’s military actions in Gaza, which they characterized as indiscriminate bombings resultin...

Steve Rosenberg’s analysis underscores the profound implications for Russia, which has invested heavily—both militarily and politically—in ensuring Assad’s survival over the past decade. This article delves into why Assad’s downfall would strike at the core of Russian prestige and what it could mean for the broader geopolitical landscape. Russia's Strategic Commitment to Syria Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Russia has been a staunch supporter of Assad's regime. In 2015, Moscow launched a military intervention that proved decisive in stabilizing Assad’s hold on power. This intervention solidified Russia's role as a key power broker in the Middle East and demonstrated its willingness to project military power far beyond its borders. Syria is not just an ally for Russia; it is a...
