Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria have demanded the removal of the party’s chairman in the area, Alhaji Moruf Ojora Gbadamosi over allegation of corruption.

About seven people were injured on Thursday as the APC factional group clashed in the Apapa-Iganmu during a meeting.

Those who demanded Gbadamosi’s removal are: the party secretary, Dr. Akintunde Taiwo Sodiq; Sheriff Tomori, Prince Kayode Obadia, Alhaji Saubana Adeniji, Alhaji Afis Olalekan, Alhaja Folasade, ex- Women Leader, Alhaja Osifeso; former member, House of Representatives, Isiaka Lawal, among others.

Speaking with newsmen at the weekend, Sodiq, said that the crisis currently facing the party dated back to last year October due to alleged poor leadership style exhibited by the party chairman, Alhaji Gbadamosi, saying that two critical meetings set up by the APC leadership at the senatorial level headed by Faud Oki and other had failed to resolve the matter.

Sodiq, who displayed series of letters to newsmen, said 10 different allegations, including embezzlement of monthly N200,000 stipends from the council sole administrators, running a one- man show, among others were raised against Gbadamosi, who he said failed to defend any.

“The committee headed by Faud Oki could not resolve the crisis. Faud was accused of bias and he stepped aside. We had another meeting in Surulere. Up till now, there was no resolution. It was based on this that the party resolved that there would be no more ward or exco meeting until the crisis was resolved,” he explained.

He said the calling of a meeting by the chairman contrary to what was agreed was what led to the crisis.

Another leader, Prince Obadia said Gbadamosi should quit now having spent 14 years in office without ever winning his wards for the party, declaring that no meeting of any kind would be allowed to hold as members would continue to fight for their rights to ensure removal of Gbadamosi.

“He has spent 14 years, he should go. This is why we are talking of resolution of this crisis because we can only win with one house. As chairman for 14 years, he has not won his polling booth. There would be no meeting if the party cannot intervene. We shall continue to fight,” he vowed.

However, the chairman, Gbadamosi, insisted that the Sodiq group, who he said was being sponsored by a former local government chairman, had no wherewithal to call for his removal because they remained just a group that should be ignored.

Gbadamosi said all the allegations against him him could not be proven before the leadership of the party, even as he challenged them to ask the incumbent sole administrator of Apapa- Iganmu Local Government if he was giving him N200,000 monthly for whatever reason.

FG berates US congressman over comment

Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture Photo: Femi Ipaye/PM News The Federal Government has described as sadly out of tune with reality the published letter from US Congressman Tom Marino to Secretary of State John Kerry, asking the US to withhold security assistance to Nigeria on the strength of some imaginary infraction by the Buhari Administration. In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Congressman Marino was poorly informed about the issues he commented on, wondering why he did not take the pains to get first hand information from the US Embassy in Nigeria or any other credible source before engaging in what is nothing but a ‘propaganda of his own imagination’. The Minister said by asking the US to refrain from selling warplanes and other military equipment to Nigeria based on a faulty premise, the Congressman has demonstrated a poor understanding of global security issues. ”Insecurity anywhere i
