The Enugu State Police Command says one person has died and two others were seriously injured in a ghastly motor accident that occurred in Enugu on Friday.

The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. along Okpara Avenue by Prisons Roundabout, Enugu.

The command’s spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, said the accident was caused by break failure.

Amaraizu said that the accident occurred when a 911 truck with registration number XB 164 JJJ lost control and hit two vehicles parked on the road.

“This led to the death of a pedestrian identified as Nwankwo Igwebuike, who was a barrow pusher.

“The auto crash also left two drivers with several degrees of injuries,’’ he said.

The police spokesperson said the injured persons were receiving treatment at a nearby hospital while the body of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary of the Eastern Nigeria Medical Centre, Enugu.

He said the command had commiserated with the families of the injured and the deceased persons.

He advised members of the public to always obey traffic rules.

The police spokesperson also warned motorists, barrow pushers and traders to desist from parking or selling at unauthorised places to avoid unpleasant consequences.

Fall of Assad is a Blow to Russia's Prestige

The potential fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a long-standing ally of Russia, would mark a turning point in Moscow’s global influence, particularly in the Middle East. This article delves into why Assad’s downfall would strike at the core of Russian prestige and what it could mean for the broader geopolitical landscape. Russia's Strategic Commitment to Syria Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Russia has been a staunch supporter of Assad's regime. In 2015, Moscow launched a military intervention that proved decisive in stabilizing Assad’s hold on power. This intervention solidified Russia's role as a key power broker in the Middle East and demonstrated its willingness to project military power far beyond its borders. Syria is not just an ally for Russia; it is a...
