The UNICEF has embarked on the repair of 110 hand pumps in Malammadori Local Government Area of Jigawa, to enhance access to portable water in rural communities.
The council’s Chairman, Alhaji Ali Alkali, said this on Monday in Malammadori.
Alkali said that 10 hand pumps would be rehabilitated across the 11 wards of the area with the support of the UNICEF.
He said that the gesture was to enhance water supply and ease the difficulties experienced by the people in accessing portable water.
Alkali added that the council had so far rehabilitated 33 broken hand pumps at various communities and a wind pump at Akurya grazing land to enhance water supply to human and animals.
While commending the state government efforts toward enhancing access to portable water, the chairman called on the people to protect basic amenities provided in their communities by the government.
