Toyin Saraki, Dino Melaye, AY Grace Vlisco’s 170th Anniversary

It was a day of merriment, joy and fashion when internationally acclaimed Vlisco marked her 170th Anniversary in Abuja.

The event which witnessed the crème dela crème of the society was blown away with exotic and well-dressed personalities, adorned in various Vlisco fabrics.

Personalities like the wife of the senate president, Mrs Toyin Saraki, the outspoken Senator Dino Milaye, Senators, wives of serving Governors, ministers, legislators and other big-wig of the society who were all patrons of Vlisco were on hand to mark the day.

The guests who cut across different ethnicity and nationals donned the glowing colours of Vlisco walking with head held up as songs rendered on the day takes one back to the days when men were boys.

AY the stand-up comedian and actor, thrilled the guest with scintillating jokes while Miss Jessica Enupapa Bongos Ikwue, daughter of famous musician, Bongos Ikwue  also rendered great songs from her father’s archives and her personal song to the admiration of the guests.

There were 3 internationally acclaimed fashion designers who showcased some of their classic Vlisco’s designs like Vintage Collette, investors of the Nigerian size guide, Vanguishe de panache couture and Hijja Clothiers.

The beautiful models who were on the runway presented some of Vlisco’s exquisite prints as guests cheered and admired the designs.

The DJ was also worthy of his balance when he rendered some of his best selections as the guests moved to the rhythm.

Vlisco, manufacturers of premium Dutch wax fabrics honoured African Women who have played an indispensable role over the years in the life of the brand as its turned 170-years old.

Speaking, the Marketing Manager, Vlisco Nigeria, Mrs. Adaeze Alilonu said, ‘’Vlisco is paying tribute to all African women who have always cherished and adored its fabrics. Vlisco is honouring their passion for authentic Wax Hollandais and feels privileged to be a part of their rich culture.’’

‘Because of its strong connection with Africa, the brand is marking the big event by honouring African women, as they have played an indispensable role in their success.” She explained.

Also speaking, the country manager, Vlisco Nigeria,  Adebisi Adekunle explained that from 2016 to March 2017, Vlisco will be  celebrating 179-years of its existence because “the first production was in 1846, we felt it timely because we have never had to reconnect with our customers in Nigeria in this manner. So we felt that this celebration gives us an opportunity to reemphasize what we represent. Africa and Nigeria are our first customers and we try to inspire them with quality products that have become part of their tradition and even culture in some instances over the years. We felt that we should reinvigorate that partnership with our consumers and that is why we are showcasing 3 indigenous fashion designers There is nothing more encouraging than owning something. Nigeria is a target market for Vlisco because you have the super wax for the Hausas, and Hollandis for the Igbos, there is no kind of fashion they relate with than the Vlisco heritage and the quality

Fani-kayode sandwiched by EFCC officials Justice James Tsoho of the Federal High Court Abuja on Thursday granted a N50m bail to former spokesman of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode. Pope not involved in Colombian peace deal- Vatican

Pope Francis Pope Francis has turned down a request to play a role in the peace deal between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebel group. The Vatican in a statement issued on Wednesday in in Vatican City said that an invitation was sent to his Holiness in early August to appoint a representative to participate in the committee that selected the judges for the talks. The statement said that though Pope Francis supported the peace process, he, however, reiterated that he would not get involved in Colombian peace deal. It said that Pope was praying for the enlightenment of the hearts and minds of those who were called to promote the common good of the Colombian nation. Man docked for defiling 9-year-old girl

magistrate-court A 33-year-old man, Godwin Otobo, was on Monday docked at a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.For allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl, ‎Otobo, who lives at No. 10, Borrow Pit St., Sangotedo-Ajah area of Lagos, was said to have defiled the underage girl whose parents also reside in the same compound. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offence at about 9.00 p.m. sometimes in September. “The accused defiled the girl in the night when she was fetching water.‎ “The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011,’’ Osayande told the court. The accused pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of defilement. Ruling on a bail application filed by the accused, Chief Magistrate Ipaye Nwachukwu, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
