The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) on Wednesday described recent attacks on the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, as ‘unpatriotic’.

Alhaji Yerima Shettima, National President AYCF, said in a statement that Emefiele and others of like-minds were doing all they could to revive the nation’s economy.

With the present economic recession, several groups have criticized the CBN governor for not doing enough to help in turning around the nation’s fortunes.

One of such groups called on him to resign within 21 days if he could not bring solutions that would turn the tide.

Shettima, however, said that such calls were unfair.

“The ongoing campaign launched against Emefiele is a deliberate misinformation designed to mislead the public and set the people against the hardworking staff and management of the apex bank.

“It is also designed to pressurize President Muhammadu Buhari into taking rash decisions against the CBN governor.

“They must not forget that despite the fact that our economic problems such as oil price fall, lack of infrastructure, insecurity and others, are not the CBN’s fault.

“The nation’s economy is already being revived by the brilliant ideas of the CBN governor and his team of economic experts.

“We cannot afford any step backward in our advancement as a nation,’’ he said.
