Police arrest wanted robbery kingpin in Enugu State

The Enugu State Police Command says it has arrested an armed robbery kingpin, Chukwudi Chigbata, wanted in the past three months.

The command’s spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, made the disclosure in an interview on Sunday in Enugu.

Amaraizu said that Chigbata was placed in the wanted list over several nefarious activities within Uzo-uwani Council Area and its environs.

He said that Chigbata was arrested at the weekend following a tip-off.

“A notorious armed robbery kingpin and suspected cultist who has been a thorn in the flesh of inhabitants of Adani in Uzo-uwani Council Area has been nabbed at Ogurugu Road axis of the council.

“The suspect, identified as Chukwudi Chigbata, who also claimed that he is a commercial bus driver, was nabbed by the eagle-eyed police operatives of the command in a drinking joint through intelligence information.

“The suspect had been on the wanted list of the operatives over his robbery and other nefarious activities within Uzo-uwani council area and its environs” he said.

Amaraizu said that the suspect was currently helping the police in their investigation.

Fire at the University of Jos Library University of Jos is to convene an emergency senate meeting on Monday to review the level of damage done to the institution by the Saturday night inferno. NDLEA arrests 252 suspects, seizes 3,073 kg Indian hemp

NDLEA operatives The NDLEA in Niger on Monday said that it had arrested 252 suspects and seized 3,073.9 kilogramme of Indian hemp(cannabis sativa) in the state. The NDLEA Commander in the state, Mr Joseph Iweajunwa, who disclosed this in Minna, said that the operations were carried out between January and September. “Our operations in Niger State from January to September 2016 led to the arrest of 252 suspects and seizure of 3,073.997 kilogramme of cannabis sativa,’’ he said. Iweajunwa said that within the period, the agency also seized 1, 530 litres of liquid drugs, especially cough syrup with codeine. He said the NDLEA also counselled and rehabilitated 90 drug addicts in the state within the period under review.
