Nigeria’s Victor Moses scored the third goal for Chelsea as the former Premiership champions handed a 3-0 defeat to their successors, Leicester City on Saturday.

In the match played at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea got two goals in the first half through Diego Costa and Eden Hazard. The loss was the fourth for the new champions, this season.

In another encounter, Arsenal defeated Swansea City 3-2 to join Manchester City at the top of the League table with 19 points apiece, after leaders, City, ended their match 1-1 with Everton.

Arsenal introduced Swansea’s new manager, Bob Bradley, the first American to take charge of a top-flight English side, to the harsh realities of Premier League as Arsene Wenger’s men won sixth consecutive league matches.

The draw at the Etihad Stadium ended City’s 100 per cent home record win this season, but the team remained leaders of the league on goal difference.

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, saw his side’s perfect record disappear after Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero had poor penalties saved by Maarten Stekelenburg in a game the leaders dominated.

City have now missed four of their eight penalties this season. Romelu Lukaku made them pay in between the missed-spot kicks with his sixth goal of the season for Everton before Nolito headed the equalizer.

Tottenham Hotspur, who had started the day in second place, missed a chance to go top, needing an 89th-minute goal from Dele Alli to rescue a 1-1 draw at West Bromwich Albion.

This result ensured that they protected their record as the only unbeaten side in the league.
Tottenham were dominant at the Hawthorns but looked set to lose when their former player, Nacer Chadli, put West Brom ahead in the 82nd minute.

England international Alli, however, ensured Spurs remained unbeaten after the opening eight league matches of the season for the first time since 1990.

They are now one point behind City and Arsenal in third place but Liverpool, who are two points further back, can leapfrog them with a win over Manchester United on Monday.

The battle of the bottom two sides saw Stoke City leave Sunderland stranded at the foot of the table with a 2-0 victory, thanks to the in-form Joe Allen, who struck twice in the first half.

The performance of the day came from Bournemouth, who enjoyed their biggest Premier League win with a 6-1 thrashing of struggling Hull City.

Pope not involved in Colombian peace deal- Vatican

Pope Francis Pope Francis has turned down a request to play a role in the peace deal between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebel group. The Vatican in a statement issued on Wednesday in in Vatican City said that an invitation was sent to his Holiness in early August to appoint a representative to participate in the committee that selected the judges for the talks. The statement said that though Pope Francis supported the peace process, he, however, reiterated that he would not get involved in Colombian peace deal. It said that Pope was praying for the enlightenment of the hearts and minds of those who were called to promote the common good of the Colombian nation. A deal was announced last week, putting an end to five decades of internal conflict between government forces and the FARC rebels. Man docked for defiling 9-year-old girl

magistrate-court A 33-year-old man, Godwin Otobo, was on Monday docked at a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.For allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl, ‎Otobo, who lives at No. 10, Borrow Pit St., Sangotedo-Ajah area of Lagos, was said to have defiled the underage girl whose parents also reside in the same compound. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offence at about 9.00 p.m. sometimes in September. “The accused defiled the girl in the night when she was fetching water.‎ “The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011,’’ Osayande told the court. The accused pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of defilement. Ruling on a bail application filed by the accused, Chief Magistrate Ipaye Nwachukwu, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
