A 26-year-old-man, Frank Chinazor, who allegedly stabbed his neighbour with broken bottle, was on Monday granted N50,000 bail by a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The magistrate, Mrs. Ipaye Nwachukwu, however, ordered the accused to produce two sureties in like sum, and that one of the sureties should be his blood relation.
Nwachukwu also ordered that the other surety must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payments to the state government.
The accused residing at No.15, Owolabi St., in Aguda-Surulere area of Lagos, is facing a charge of assault.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande told the court that the accused committed the offence at his residence at about 12.30 a.m. on Oct. 25.
Osayande said that Chinazor unlawfully assaulted his co-tenant, Chidi Maduneche, by using a broken bottle to inflict cuts on his body.
She further alleged that the duo has had a disagreement prior to the day of the incident of Oct. 25.
The prosecutor further told the court that the accused stabbed the complainant after a renewed argument that night.
She said that the offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Section 171 provides three years imprisonment if found guilty.
The magistrate adjourned the case to Dec. 1 for mention.
