A former Chairman of Ife East Local Government Area of Osun, Chief Gbenga Owolabi, has commended the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for modernising the 2016 edition of the Olojo festival through technology.

Owolabi gave the commendation while speaking on the sidelines of the grand finale of the Olojo festival on Monday in Ile-Ife.

He said this year’s festival was “unique and extraordinary’’ by the way the Ooni had modernised it.

“ This brings a new dawn and new beginning to the cradle of the Yoruba,’’ he said.

Owolabi also commended the monarch for prioritising Yoruba culture as well as promoting peace and unity among traditional rulers and the entire Yoruba race.

He admonished all stakeholders to support Ogunwusi in implementing initiatives to empower the people.

Owolabi also expressed support for the return of history as a subject in the school curriculum, saying it would help preserve culture and tradition.

The Asiwaju Awo Agbaye, Dr Ifagbenuola Atanda, also congratulated the Ooni on the successful outcome of the Olojo festival.

Atanda, who said the annual festival was being celebrated to promote peace and unity, urged government and other stakeholders to support the Ooni in promoting Yoruba cultural heritage.

FG berates US congressman over comment

Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture Photo: Femi Ipaye/PM News The Federal Government has described as sadly out of tune with reality the published letter from US Congressman Tom Marino to Secretary of State John Kerry, asking the US to withhold security assistance to Nigeria on the strength of some imaginary infraction by the Buhari Administration. In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Congressman Marino was poorly informed about the issues he commented on, wondering why he did not take the pains to get first hand information from the US Embassy in Nigeria or any other credible source before engaging in what is nothing but a ‘propaganda of his own imagination’. The Minister said by asking the US to refrain from selling warplanes and other military equipment to Nigeria based on a faulty premise, the Congressman has demonstrated a poor understanding of global security issues. ”Insecurity anywhere i
