Bells University graduates 28 1st class degree students

A total of 28 students of Bells University of Technology in Ota, Ogun, bagged first class degree during its 2015/2016 academic session.

The new Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, disclosed this on Wednesday in Otta during a press conference to mark the 8th Convocation Ceremony of the institution.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a total of 334 students are graduating.

They comprised 28 with the first class degree, 122 with the second class upper degree, 108 with second class lower, 76 with third class and 30 postgraduates.

Ojediran said the institution had set in motion a conversion programme to avail HND holders who were affected by the B.SC/HND dichotomy to upgrade their certificates to B.Sc degrees status.

”The university is committed to reaching out to the heavy population of HND holders in numerous industries in the country,” he said.
Ojediran also said the management was working toward making the university a world-class one which would be recognised globally as a pace setter.

The don said that the world class status would reflect in the institution’s academic programme, administration, staff and students welfare with value adding linkages and partnerships.

Ojediran said that the institution had provided a platform for staff to further their education and develop their potential to the fullest capacity.

He said that graduates were being trained by qualified personnel to be relevant in Nigeria and internationally.

The vice chancellor commended the past administrations of the institution for the solid foundation of excellence laid for the university.

He said the past administration laid significant footprints in term of physical development and beautiful environment.

Ojediran pledged to build on the solid foundation by restructuring the academic programme when necessary to meet the changing needs of the Nigerian economy.

Pope not involved in Colombian peace deal- Vatican

Pope Francis Pope Francis has turned down a request to play a role in the peace deal between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebel group. The Vatican in a statement issued on Wednesday in in Vatican City said that an invitation was sent to his Holiness in early August to appoint a representative to participate in the committee that selected the judges for the talks. Man docked for defiling 9-year-old girl

magistrate-court A 33-year-old man, Godwin Otobo, was on Monday docked at a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.For allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl, ‎Otobo, who lives at No. 10, Borrow Pit St., Sangotedo-Ajah area of Lagos, was said to have defiled the underage girl whose parents also reside in the same compound. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offence at about 9.00 p.m. sometimes in September. “The accused defiled the girl in the night when she was fetching water.‎ “The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011,’’ Osayande told the court.
