Five men and a woman on Monday had their hands cut off in a suspected act of vigilante justice, local media reported in Mexico.
It said the victims were found near the city of Guadalajara in western Mexico, adding that the hands were left at the scene in plastic bags.
However, it added that a seventh person was found dead.
A note found at the scene signed by the “Elite Anti-Rat Group” claimed that the victims were criminals, suggesting they were targeted by a vigilante group.
The word “rat” is commonly used in Mexico for thieves.
The victims were taken to hospital where they refused to tell police what had happened.
“Here nobody gives any information about anything,” police official Eduardo Palacios said.
