A three-year-old boy, Lewis Dandyson, became the cynosure as he thrilled golfers and spectators alike when he made an unexpected entry into the ongoing 3rd Awa Ibrahim Junior Golf open Championships.

The young golfer accompanied by his mother, Noble Dandyson to the Ikeja Golf Club venue of the championship left many astonished with his displays.

The young golfer, according to his mum, is said to have taken interest in the game when he was brought to the golf course by his father early in the year.

The championships are open to children from ages five to 18 and is organised to celebrate a golf icon, Alhaji Awa Ibrahim, whose birthday is on Oct. 19.

However, the tournament took a new twist as the young Dandyson was led to the golf course by the mum on Saturday, claiming that he was ready to take up the challenge of the older kids.

Young Dandyson in turn did not disappoint as he played 64 in 4 holes
to the surprise of the spectators on Saturday.

On the motivation behind presenting the young Dandyson for the tournament, the Noble said that she wanted to set an example for other parents to encourage their children in sports.

“I want other parents to encourage their lads to play golf. Sometimes, education is not enough. The kids are inspired by what they see around them.

“Once the kids see something new, they take interest in them and I want parents to watch their children’s interest and encourage them positively.

“My son is playing golf because he sees us play the game. As young as he is, he wants to hold the golf stick, so we decided to teach him.

“I will like him to be like the Tiger Woods of this world when he grows up. I think he has enough motivation for that,’’ she said.

On the entry one of the youngest golfer the championships has recorded, the Director of Youth Development, Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), Emma Ekong, said: “It is expected. It has been our dream.

“We have been seeing a situation like this, but for his age, it is something to look out for.

“It’s good that he starts early and this is what the championships are all about.

“The motto of this championships is `catch-them-young’ and the parents are really getting the message. We look forward to more surprises of this nature,’’ she said.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has taken a concerning regional turn as the Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility for an attack on central Israel. The group announced this as part of their escalating response to what they describe as "massacres" in Gaza amid the Israeli military’s operations in the strip. Details of the Attack The Houthis, a Shiite militant group with ties to Iran, declared that they launched missile and drone strikes targeting Israel. While the exact impact of these attacks remains unclear, reports suggest that Israel’s defense systems intercepted several threats over its airspace. This marks a significant escalation as the Houthis widen their involvement in the conflict beyond their typical operations within Yemen and neighboring Saudi Arabia. The Houthis’ Justification In their statement, the Houthis framed the attack as retaliation for Israel’s military actions in Gaza, which they characterized as indiscriminate bombings resultin...

Fall of Assad is a Blow to Russia's Prestige

The potential fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a long-standing ally of Russia, would mark a turning point in Moscow’s global influence, particularly in the Middle East. Steve Rosenberg’s analysis underscores the profound implications for Russia, which has invested heavily—both militarily and politically—in ensuring Assad’s survival over the past decade. This article delves into why Assad’s downfall would strike at the core of Russian prestige and what it could mean for the broader geopolitical landscape. Russia's Strategic Commitment to Syria Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Russia has been a staunch supporter of Assad's regime. In 2015, Moscow launched a military intervention that proved decisive in stabilizing Assad’s hold on power. This intervention solidified Russia's role as a key power broker in the Middle East and demonstrated its willingness to project military power far beyond its borders. Syria is not just an ally for Russia; it is a...
