The Secretaries to State Governments (SSGs) of 23 states controlled by the All Progressives Congress (APC) are meeting in Jos on the economic challenges facing the country, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Mr Salihu Lukman, Director General, Progressive Governors Forum, said in Jos on Monday that the meeting was to articulate ways to ease out of the recession.

“We are here to discuss what it is to be done across the 23 states. Once it is agreed we will present it to the progressive governors for adoption of the recommendations and implementation.”

Plateau Governor, Simon Lalong, in his message, advised the SSGs to “think out of the box” in addressing the abnormal situation in their states.

“As you brainstorm to proffer solutions to our plethora of problems, I admonish you in the words of our President to think outside the box, because abnormal situations require abnormal solutions.

“We will not have been in this state of affairs if the last administration spared a thought about the economy, yet we must rise above the distraction of trading blames and focus on addressing the challenges,” he charged.

Lalong, who was represented by his deputy, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, said as key drivers of government policies, the SSGs must come up with implementable steps for states to come out of current problems.

He said that the theme of the two-day workshop ‘Building the Economy of States, Challenges of Developing Inclusive Sustainable Growth’ was relevant in mitigating the problems facing the country.

FG berates US congressman over comment

Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture Photo: Femi Ipaye/PM News The Federal Government has described as sadly out of tune with reality the published letter from US Congressman Tom Marino to Secretary of State John Kerry, asking the US to withhold security assistance to Nigeria on the strength of some imaginary infraction by the Buhari Administration. In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Congressman Marino was poorly informed about the issues he commented on, wondering why he did not take the pains to get first hand information from the US Embassy in Nigeria or any other credible source before engaging in what is nothing but a ‘propaganda of his own imagination’. The Minister said by asking the US to refrain from selling warplanes and other military equipment to Nigeria based on a faulty premise, the Congressman has demonstrated a poor understanding of global security issues. ”Insecurity anywhere i

But a remorseful Ndong, who held clear-the-air talks with Fegafoot has been included in a 23-man Panthers squad. Other names to make the final party include Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina, Bruno Ecuélé Manga of Cardiff City and China-based striker Malick Evouna.
