The Rivers Police Command have confirmed arsonists’ attack on the house of Dr Chidi Lloyd, a former leader in Rivers House of Assembly.

The building is located at Akpabu in Emohua Local Government area of Rivers State.

The spokesman for the command, Mr Nnamdi Omoni, a DSP, told newsmen in Port Harcourt on Friday that the police had received information on the attack.

He said details of the incident were still sketchy, but the police were still working hard to get more details on the incident.

Lloyd had told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Wednesday that his house had been burnt.

“From the information I gathered, unknown gunmen, numbering about 20 in military uniform, came on motorbikes and went straight to my house in the village and set it ablaze.

“It is a new building that I just finished. Everything inside the house was burnt down, but no life was lost,” he said.

Lloyd said he had no problem with anybody and wondered why people would contrive to carry out arson against him.

“I do not think that I have any previous problem with anybody. The only problem I have on earth is politics,” he said.

The Houthis’ Justification In their statement, the Houthis framed the attack as retaliation for Israel’s military actions in Gaza, which they characterized as indiscriminate bombings resultin...

Fall of Assad is a Blow to Russia's Prestige

The potential fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a long-standing ally of Russia, would mark a turning point in Moscow’s global influence, particularly in the Middle East. This article delves into why Assad’s downfall would strike at the core of Russian prestige and what it could mean for the broader geopolitical landscape. Russia's Strategic Commitment to Syria Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Russia has been a staunch supporter of Assad's regime. In 2015, Moscow launched a military intervention that proved decisive in stabilizing Assad’s hold on power. This intervention solidified Russia's role as a key power broker in the Middle East and demonstrated its willingness to project military power far beyond its borders. Syria is not just an ally for Russia; it is a...
