The Nigerian Army has refuted report of alleged presence of Boko Haram terrorists and their flag in some Borno villages.

“There is no presence of the terrorists in any of the villages talkless of hoisting flags as alleged,” army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman said in a statement on Tuesday.

Usman, however, said that some remnants of the terrorists at about 4.35 p.m. on Monday attacked Boftari, about 15 kilometres from Chibok town.

He said that troops of Operation Lafiya Dole stationed in Forward Operation Base, Chibok, mobilised to the area.

“The troops encountered Boko Haram terrorists ambush site shortly before Kuburmbula village.

“They quickly cleared the ambush and proceeded to Boftari.

“Unfortunately, the terrorists had set some houses on fire and fled. The troops put out the fire and are currently on the hunt for the terrorists.

“It is imperative to state that contrary to rumours flying around some media reports, no life was lost,” he said.

Usman also said that on Monday at about 5 p.m., suspected elements of Boko Haram terrorists, scavenging for food, attacked Kwang village and Vigilantes from Dagu, about 4 kilometres responded and repelled the terrorists attack.

“During the fire fight that ensued, one of the vigilantes sustained gunshot wound on his hand and was evacuated to General Hospital Uba while the terrorists fled with gunshot wounds.

“Troops were eventually dispatched to the area with clear orders to pursue and deal with the terrorists. They are still exploiting.’’

FG berates US congressman over comment

Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture Photo: Femi Ipaye/PM News The Federal Government has described as sadly out of tune with reality the published letter from US Congressman Tom Marino to Secretary of State John Kerry, asking the US to withhold security assistance to Nigeria on the strength of some imaginary infraction by the Buhari Administration. In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Congressman Marino was poorly informed about the issues he commented on, wondering why he did not take the pains to get first hand information from the US Embassy in Nigeria or any other credible source before engaging in what is nothing but a ‘propaganda of his own imagination’. The Minister said by asking the US to refrain from selling warplanes and other military equipment to Nigeria based on a faulty premise, the Congressman has demonstrated a poor understanding of global security issues. ”Insecurity anywhere i

But a remorseful Ndong, who held clear-the-air talks with Fegafoot has been included in a 23-man Panthers squad. Other names to make the final party include Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina, Bruno Ecuélé Manga of Cardiff City and China-based striker Malick Evouna.
