NAN set to launch new photo portal

NAN

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) is set to introduce a new portal for photographs that would be beneficial to the media industry in the country and the world at large.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive of NAN, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, made this known when the NUJ President, Mr. Waheed Odusile, paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Friday in Abuja.

“We are trying to start a new NAN portal basically for photos. As of now, we have been sending photographs via email.

“We want our subscribers to come to the portal and take photographs themselves and not we sending to them.

“We believe that we can serve photographs just like our news to the entire world, not just the only subscribers we have within Nigeria and we have also introduced another website that is just three weeks old.

“We also want to set up a video portal because that is the future of journalism, not the lengthy stories that we write.”

Onanuga said that soon, stories would be told via video, adding that the agency would strive to achieve this in the next five years.

He noted that a social medium such as Facebook was offering publishers around the world five-figure sum in dollars to provide it with video.

He said that NAN would key into a lot of packages that would make the agency more efficient and dependable by all media houses.

“We are trying to do a lot of things in NAN and we are not resting because we are going to do much better for our subscribers, our workers and the country.

“They are all going to achieve more through encouragement and commitment. I have seen some of the flaws as a consumer.

“I want to see how I can contribute my expertise in taking News Agency of Nigeria to another level,’’ Onanuga said.

FG berates US congressman over comment

Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture Photo: Femi Ipaye/PM News The Federal Government has described as sadly out of tune with reality the published letter from US Congressman Tom Marino to Secretary of State John Kerry, asking the US to withhold security assistance to Nigeria on the strength of some imaginary infraction by the Buhari Administration. In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Congressman Marino was poorly informed about the issues he commented on, wondering why he did not take the pains to get first hand information from the US Embassy in Nigeria or any other credible source before engaging in what is nothing but a ‘propaganda of his own imagination’. The Minister said by asking the US to refrain from selling warplanes and other military equipment to Nigeria based on a faulty premise, the Congressman has demonstrated a poor understanding of global security issues. ”Insecurity anywhere i

But a remorseful Ndong, who held clear-the-air talks with Fegafoot has been included in a 23-man Panthers squad. Other names to make the final party include Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina, Bruno Ecuélé Manga of Cardiff City and China-based striker Malick Evouna.
