Sheikh Garuba Akinola-Ibrahim, Chief Imam of Lagos State, on Wednesday urged the government to declare a state of emergency in the agricultural sector as a way out of the current recession.
“Agriculture remains the only solution to poverty eradication, unemployment, food crisis and economic recession.
“It will ensure adequate food production and self-sufficiency for economic development,” Akinola-Garuba told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
The Chief Imam urged the three tiers government and the private sector to promote agriculture and research projects aimed at enhancing food security.
According to the cleric, getting the country out of recession requires collective efforts of both government and citizens.
“We should not leave it all to government alone, we must start as individuals, families and communities.
“Let us start looking inwards to re-position our great country; we have the human and natural resources to make Nigeria great again,” he said.
The Chief Imam then urged Nigerians to be patient and prayerful with the present administration in its efforts at improving the nation’s economy.
