Ambode charges CDAs to re-organise to overcome recession

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has called on all the Community Development Associations, CDAs in the state to re-organise their respective associations better so as to survive the current economic recession.

The Governor also charged the community association to update their information with the state government‎, saying that his administration remained committed to running all-inclusive government.

‎Speaking through his Special Adviser on Communities and Communications, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan‎, the governor implored the associations to initiate community based oriented projects as well as coordinate monitoring of existing infrastructural facilities in their respective Communities.

‎Ambode, who gave the advice at the 2016 Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council Annual Congress held at Oshodi- Isolo Local Government Secretariat, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria said that his administration‎ has structured the governance systems that seats on the Communities.

According to him, the system has been put at the centre of policy formulation, adding that the emphasis on the rule of communities both in community policies and extreme policies has changed drastically.

“Everybody has been able to see that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has been proactive in initiating certain policies that draw the Community Development to the government, they are now the first point of call whenever the formulation process want to start, and they now have a role to play in the process of executing policies. And lastly they are now being seeing as the final assessors of the impacts of government works,’’ he said.

He explained that the idea basically was to see how the government could re-invigorate the machinery of the communities in the operational systems in order boost and strengthen the existing relationship between the government and the man on the street.

Ambode told the community associations that having been able to re-access their strengths and weaknesses, the government was determined to strengthen operational machinery of the community.

‎Senior Special Assistant on Community Affairs, Alhaji Tajudeen Quadri, commended the current administration for recognizing the Community Development Association, CDAs by running inclusive governance in Lagos State and how it has encouraged all the Community Development Associations to achieve so many things they were not able to do in the past.


Speaking on ‎the role of CDAs in recession period, Guest lecturer‎, Mr. Dayo Israel noted that the associations could embark on some project such as provision of security, monitoring of government facilities, electrification, construction and leveling of roads, empowerment, community supports and empathy.

Fire: UniJos Senate convenes emergency meeting on Monday

Fire at the University of Jos Library University of Jos is to convene an emergency senate meeting on Monday to review the level of damage done to the institution by the Saturday night inferno. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, disclosed this on Sunday after inspecting areas affected by the incident. NDLEA arrests 252 suspects, seizes 3,073 kg Indian hemp

NDLEA operatives The NDLEA in Niger on Monday said that it had arrested 252 suspects and seized 3,073.9 kilogramme of Indian hemp(cannabis sativa) in the state. The NDLEA Commander in the state, Mr Joseph Iweajunwa, who disclosed this in Minna, said that the operations were carried out between January and September. “Our operations in Niger State from January to September 2016 led to the arrest of 252 suspects and seizure of 3,073.997 kilogramme of cannabis sativa,’’ he said. Iweajunwa said that within the period, the agency also seized 1, 530 litres of liquid drugs, especially cough syrup with codeine. He said the NDLEA also counselled and rehabilitated 90 drug addicts in the state within the period under review.
