A 20-year-old man, Isaac Bamidele, was on Wednesday charged before an Ota Magistrates Court in Ogun for alleged impersonation.
Bamidele, who lives at No. 27 Opeyemi Street, Iyana -Iyesi, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of impersonation and conspiracy.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Abdul Kareem Mustapha told the court that the accused and other still at large committed the offence at Ijaba area of Ota.
Mustapha said that the accused and his accomplices paraded themselves as Nigerian Navy officers with a view to aiding land speculators in achieving their unlawful act.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 249, 484 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.I. Adelaja granted bail to the accused in the sum of 200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She directed that the sureties should be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.
In addition, the magistrate said that the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and produce evidence of one-year tax clearance issued by Ogun State Government.
The case was adjourned till Oct.12 for hearing.
