A 39-year-old man, Ikechukwu Jerry, was on Thursday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating his lover.
The accused, a construction worker, residing at 3, Olufemi Ojo St., Olowora Ogba, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for assault.
According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, the offence was committed on July 31 at the residence of the accused.
Aigbokhan said that a fight ensued between the accused and his lover, a 32-year-old woman, over money, with the lady ending up sustaining a severe wound on her right eye.
“The offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011,” he said.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. Olanipekun, granted the accused N50, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case to Sept. 16 for mention.
